Well, i'm a big supporter of the saying "What you can't see is even greater then what you can see". On another note: when I was a child (and still to this very day) I was a huge Horror fan. Therefore, illusionary techniques are right up my alley.
Also, I wish to learn Genjutsu because it would bring me one step closer to mastering all the basic NB training
But probably the biggest reason is because of how deadly Genjutsu can be when used with a creative strategy, and like I once said: "I have nothing but time".

I'm pretty much terrible when it comes to horror. xD But Genjutsu definitely allows one to be creative. It's like writing stories, you can do anything with a paper and a pencil.

Exactly, when it comes to Genjutsu, creativity=Power. That's one of my fav things about it. =D
When ensnaring an enemy in a Genjutsu, I feel that tricking them into thinking that they're not in a Genjutsu would be pretty effective.
Another tactic might be to use Ninjutsu or ninja tools to make your opponent think that the jutsu or (ninja tools) is your primary form of offence in that situation. When in actuality, you are setting them up for a powerful Genjutsu.
As for how it works: Genjutsu is a form of illusionary combat that, just like Ninjutsu, requires both Chakra and Hand seals. When using Genjutsu, you are manipulating your enemy's chakra in their brain, thus effecting their 5 basic senses; making them See, Smell, Hear, feel and taste things that aren't really there. What makes it so dangerous is that someones senses tell them what's "real", and when you mess with someones perception of "reality" it can become not only physically harmful for them, but mentally aswell.

It enters the area of our brain, the prosencephalon structure of our brain, which controls all our senses. You MUST remember to manipulate all five senses any time you start a genjutsu.

1: One can stop their chakra flow, and push back harder to beat enemy's chakra that casted the Genjutsu.
2: You can hurt yourself in order to kickstart your senses, thus, breaking the Genjutsu.
You may also utilize a clone to perform this method.
3: Training your body to withstand Genjutsu.
Example: Deidara, when he trained his eyes to defeat Itachi's Genjutsu. (or at least, so he said)

That's all I can think of...
Yes, you hit the three major ones, and a fourth one may be that an extremely strong smell (may it be spice or chili or just something plain disgusting) can do the trick. And also, don't forget that people who have strong Doujutsus like Sharingan, can also force their way out of Genjutsus.

I can break a Genjutsu by farting? ........dream = fulfilled

Alright, excellent! You got the concept down of using this jutsu, however, there's another thing I'd to teach you about this. It's known as cause and effect. For example, you used a Wind Jutsu to blow away the explosive tag, thus, I can follow up with a prepared fire move to disregard your Wind Jutsu, so that it overcomes it and is sent back at you two times stronger.
By taking the upper hand, you can juggle your opponent around and have them react the way you want to, as we are all forced to make moves and survive in a battle. This is most often used in chess, where it is necessary to be able to predict several moves ahead of the opponent.

Hmm, I might use that method to make a Raiton jutsu look like a Katon technique. The enemy would use an Doton technique to block the flames, though since it's really a Raiton move it'll go right through the enemy's defense.
Also, using clones plus this jutsu for Cause and Effect could prove to be very effective.

Well, unlike ninjutsu, if you're able to beat your enemy to the punch then you'll ensnare them in the Genjutsu and you won't clash jutsu at the last second. Meaning, that if you ensnare them before they can get you, they won't be able to get out as fast because they were focused on offence when they were hit by the technique. Allowing you to get a quick kill while they're out of it.

Perfect! It's that little timeframe in the middle that counts. It pays a lot to notice things like that during fights. Small attention to important things can really make a huge difference.

I want you to focus your chakra into me once more and make it appear that you've dissolved into many petals. Actually, cherry blossom petals. Then, make those cherry blossoms around me and make sure you obscure my vision.

This jutsu's purpose in a battle is to mask your enemy's vision and to make them think that you are around them somewhere, when in actuality you may be nowhere near them, and it might even cause paranoia.
Because of this illusions effect, they may waste chakra, or do other unnecessary action that can only benefit you.
