Does Gear Second have varying levels of effectiveness? Luffy has the original way where he presses down on his feet and both legs produce the effect, then he has his newer way of shooting his arm out and getting the blood flow boost that way.
What I am wondering is, is the original way a bigger boost or maybe a longer effect than the newer way, it seems like it should be since more blood is being effected plus he has his body weight pressing it down. Not sure if the manga ever bothered to cover this, if not what are your opinions do you think Gear Second is Gear Second regardless of how it's activated or is the leg start version stronger or is the arm start version stronger?

When he uses both legs to activate G2, that's when his heart pumps more blood throughout his entire body - hence his entire body is steaming. Whereas when he uses a specific part of his body to activate it (such as his arm), then his heart only pumps faster rates of blood to that specific limb (so in this case his arm) - hence only his arm his steaming.
However, the anime fvcks this up when it shows his entire body steaming despite him actually just using G2 in one area of his body.

Well it gives the same effect to the same degree.

However the arm blood pumping is anime only.

In the post time skip manga he can go into Gear Second without bumping his blood.

How are we supposed to know?

If he uses a full body G2 he uses his legs and places his right fist on the ground. However now since the time skip he can specify which parts of the body are affected. We saw this when he one shotted a pacifista with steam only being produced from his arm and nowhere else.

So the varying affect you speak of is actually the specificity.

I think it was stated that over the time skip he learnt to apply G2 to only certain parts of his body.
However, in the anime it shows him still having a full G2 power up every time it is activated.
Him holding his arm out in the manga to turn into G2 means he is only applying G2 to his arm.

It's the same. Although i can't say the same about Gear 3rd. It's getting smaller and smaller everytime we see it.
Gear Third probably depends on the amount of air he puts in it. Probably in a battle with constant heat being thrown at him, he won't be able to inflate his fist as much as he could with no distractions.
