This is my idea for a new gear... but this time, instead of it being a Gear 4th, it'll be something that I feel terrible for not thinking of earlier... Gear 2: Advanced. I'm sure we ALL can agree that he hasn't completely mastered either Gear, 2 or 3 yet and still has a lot of progress to make in the 8 years of OP we have left.
What is it?
G2 Advanced is the updated version of Gear 2, but you could've guessed that much. First let's go over how G2 works again. Luffy gains complete control of his body using Life Release, focuses all his energy in his heart, and starts pumping blood through his body like a fire hydrant to a hose. When he does this, his body stars turning red and steaming up literally because of all that boiling blood flowing through his body.
Now lets think about how a fire starts (you know where I'm going with this). First it starts with heat... then it starts smoking, or steaming... then finally, the object combusts. Right now, Luffy has perfected that second step.
Now, Gear 2: Advanced is when he increases this flow, pushing his heart even further than Gear 2, to such speeds that his body starts to ignite itself... with fire!
It's definitely not outside the realm of possibility, especially considering he's already been seen experimenting with this ability, but only on his arms.
Now hold on a minute, wouldn't that hurt him?
Nope. All he has to do is equip Haki to his entire body.
I don't entirely understand the concept, but it looks like different peoples Hakis protect against different things better than others. For example. Luffy for example isn't good at guarding against slicing/piercing attacks, but it seems that he has a resistance to fire, or at the very least can endure fire damage with his Haki. I'm picking straws here, but maybe another character like Shanks may have a descent Haki resistance against slicing attacks considering his rival and how they used to clash.
How would this be of assistance?
Igniting his body on fire would allow him to deal major inferno damage along with his blunt punching and kicking attacks. I believe this may be of use against Mingo, since his DF is string and he could possibly have a weakness to fire. It would be like a finite, paramecia version of Mera Mera no Mi, meaning that he wouldn't be able to use like fire rays, or those ember spark things that Ace did, or make this huge fireballs.
In a way, it would also give him an extra coat of protection. Not everybody has the odd resistance to fire Luffy has, and they wouldn't be able to touch him while he's in this mode.
And of course, making his G2 attacks even more stronger, and even more faster.
But what's the drawback?
Nothing good can last forever. Because of how much more taxing on his body this would be than his ordinary Gear 2 mode, it would be like using Gear 2 for the first time again; having a short span that he can use it. He may have to use it in brief explosions as well, since he would probably start to feel the burn if he uses it for too long.
So there's my idea, for Gear 2: Advanced. What do you think?
