Nothing too much into detail but basically when you produce fire in your body, it also comes along with smoke but using your chakra, you can take full advantage of it.

Same process as before but instead of releasing fire, make fire within your body and release the smoke

Better. Now the special thing about the smoke is that it is a flammable gas that can be ignited by sparks of flame. So if you were to double up with a fire jutsu, it would increase the offensive power overall but seeing as these are only D's, during the latter, you'll wont pay much attention to these.
