Itachi clearly states that KA returned him to "normal", he wouldn't have said that if he's still under the influence of a genjutsu, either Edo Tensei or Kotoamatsukami. Besides, as far as we know is that Shisui's Kotoamatsukami is a genjutsu that lets the user control his enemy without him noticing that, not that it's eternal or whatever.

*Sigh*

How can the Genjutsu not be eternal, if its only used once and disappears? Kabuto stated that he will ''rewrite'' the spell in Itachi's mind [ ]. That means something inside Itachi's mind is resisting Edo Tensie, which is KA.

Genjutsu effects sound, sight, touch, taste, and smell.
The gates are getting infected one way or another

Nope twofold. First, it's not used once and disappear since it's stated that can be used again every 10 years. So yeah, if you have any proof that it's an eternal genjutsu, I suggest you post the manga scan now. Second and most importat, fuda is the little paper that it's introduced in the Edo Tensei's head to control them:

(Notice how Muu is speaking about "fuda", which in this case is the paper holding the seal.)

Also, when they explain how the fuda works, it says it kills the personality of the one being controlled, which makes sense since Itachi's normal personality wouldn't bring him to destroy konoha. Besides think about it, if KA is still in effect ,it means that Kabuto edo tensei's genjutsu is stronger than KA, but he states otherwise:

KA > Edo Tensei's genjutsu , so rewritting the fuda would be useless if KA is still in effect. So it's clear that, like it was stated on the manga, Itachi returned to normal, was not under the influence of KA and Kabuto wanted to re-activate the little piece of paper inside Itachi's head.

This says Itachi stating the Genjutsu's purpose was to protect Konoha. To protect Konoha, he had to go to fight Kabuto and undo ET. Now, in , he says he wanted to use it on Sasuke to have him protect Konoha. If the Genjutsu doesn't last as you claim, what's the point in using it? In other words, once KA is cast, it stays eternal on the victim.

Fail. Edo Tensie doesn't have a Genjutsu. Its the spell inside the kunai that controls them. KA was controlled Itachi instead.

Itachi didn't need a Genjutsu or any extra motivation to fight Kabuto to protect Konoha since he slaughtered his whole clan to prevent an uprising, so casting KA was only to break him from Edo Tensei's genjutsu or whatever you want to call it. Still waiting for a scan that says that Koto Amatsukami is eternal though.

Do I really need to spell what the manga said? "There is only ONE genjutsu strong enough to do this!". If KA > ET, then if KA is still active, rewriting the fuda would do nothing. So again, it's clear that Itachi wasn't under the influence of KA.

Strong enough pain > Genjutsu.

Mugen Tsukuyomi soloes. If you don't want to go that far, you could always opt for Koto. Still, Genjutsu>>>>Taijutsu.

Genjutsu is changing the Chakra flow of the brain right? So I wonder if opening the 1st Gate (localized in the brain) would change the Chakra flow to normal hmm

No, because the caster would have the control of that chakra. Therefore, the gates can't even be activated. And Genjutsu doesn't only change the flow of chakra inside the brain, but of the whole body too.

The Hachimon itself can't effect a Genjutsu though. They are simply "tools" to release all chakra or to regulate, but as we know a great control of chakra is required to break through Genjutsu~Genjutsu:Kai.

That's why Genjutsu>Hachimon

I'm not saying to activate the Gates while under a genjutsu, that I would believe to be impossible or not feasible since you don't have actual control of your body. What I meant with the thread is once you're in Gates mode, and constant pain is coursing through your body, will that pain be enough to snap you out of a genjutsu?. BTW why do you say that the Hachimon cannot end a genjutsu? Are you saying that regarding the pain the gates give you or the chakra's flow it alters?

Edo's feel pain?
They don't. I've already had this debate before with him.

Every instance we've seen where an ET shinobi's been critically damaged, they've shown no hint of pain. Gates should cancel out genjutsu, either through pain or Genjutsu Kai, due to the user's chakra flowing at full force.

Gai had the gates and still preferred not to look sharingan users in the eye due to risk of genjutsu.

This might say something, but on the other hand it might be for not wasting time for releasing genjutsu via gates because it would still be a loss of time that can be used for opponent.

Although, he developed that technique against Kakashi, and he wouldn't ever use Gates in a friendly battle against Kakashi.

Had a feeling something fishy was going on.. Especially since maddy was very excited about feeling pain again.

Makes sense. This is a notion I can get behind.
