Splatter the distance of an island? Sure. In all directions? None of Gai's techniques have ever shown that capacity. Being split up wouldn't even kill suigetsu anyway. He's been split up enough times to show that isn't an issue to him. Not only that, Gai would need eight gates to accomplish anything close to that feat. He would fail to kill suigetsu, and only kill himself.

Being split up won't kill him but it will take forever for him to reform if he ever does.
And by the time he does(if he does) guy could hit him with it again.

Hydrafication has withstood nothing more than strikes from basic swords and punches.

Water is dispersed every time Suigetsu is hit. A few punches and kicks from Gai and Suigetsu will be crawling back into the ocean to suck up more water. Dude could barely walk in the sun without needing to rest every 5 minutes and drinking from a water bottle, yet he's supposed to withstand flames? Get real.

And even if he can survive, he's got absolutely nothing on Gai in CQC. Gai effortlessly parries everything Suigetsu has in his next to empty arsenal.
