Yes he can. He had no trouble withstanding a Bijuudama to the face, which craps on Hirudora with an unholy crap. Hirudora would be like punching water. You aren't going to accomplish anything like that.
Splatter the distance of an island? Sure. In all directions? None of Gai's techniques have ever shown that capacity. Being split up wouldn't even kill suigetsu anyway. He's been split up enough times to show that isn't an issue to him. Not only that, Gai would need eight gates to accomplish anything close to that feat. He would fail to kill suigetsu, and only kill himself.
