Gai not dying was actually good

So the 8th gate was said to kill the user after being used. Gai was going to die before Naruto saved him by what looks like restoration of sorts.

Gai in the 8th gate was very strong dont get me wrong, he was able to distort space but it didnt phase Madara at all. It actually did not affect him in anyway, he just simply healed from it like nothing happened. Now would that have been good writing to have Gai die for no reason without actually doing something Madara?

If his attack permanently weakened Madara then Gai dying would have made for an awesome death.

But his attack wasnt able to change Madara at all, it was as if Gai hadnt fought him at all.

So Gai not dying makes perfect sense and is not bad writing. Had Gai died, same people would be saying Kishimoto is a terrible writer and ruined Gai's character by making him die and not weaken Madara in anyway.

So would you have actually liked Gai dying for no reason?

I personally think him living ruined his character. After a fight like that, he should have died valiantly, rather than saved by Naruto.

I would like him dying just to buy more time which is what he did ultimately. It would have mad a noble sacrifice. His attack inn 8 gates caused Madara to lose his truth seeking balls as well.

Gai was never going to win against Madara. It would have been boss if he did die, knowing that he did his absolute best to buy some time for Naruto and Sasuke to recover and head back to the fray. But meh, Kishi went the other way. He could have brought a great closure to his character, especially since there were flashbacks of Gai's past leading up to his 8th gate. Though, I'm not that disappointed that Kishi didn't choose this route.

That aside, xcoyote said it. It wouldn't be in vain even if he died. He damaged Madara in a long run by buying time for Nardo and Sauce to come inside I mean back to fu I mean own him.

The only reason why madara could heal himself in the first place is because of hashirama sooooo gai did phase him and he should of died would of been my 2nd fav after J-man

anyway my reason was because he was ready to die like a hero and he knew what he had to do,even from the irrelevant flashbacks that we got you can tell that he was ready, but no kishi just had to ruin that.

Everyone saying he bought time and that was what he accomplished, and I agree with you on that but that would mean Gai and 8th gates were just filler this would also mean Gai's death would have been filler. I dont think Kishimoto wanted that.

Kishi just wronged him twice by not killing him and him not damaging Madara.

I guess you can say Guy was just the distraction, something to keep Madara busy whilst Naruto & Sasuke were revived. Again, it was lazy writing- just like with Sakura & her powerup he clearly forgot about Guy and remembered it at the last minute because surely VS Obito before the Hokage even arrived would've been the perfect time to fight Obito? Makes more sense than Madara anyhow. Either way, call him a waste but he pushed Maddy to Kaguya mode.
