I am quite taken with gaara and i find it really amazing that he can his own chakra to easily control the sand to make it act as a barrier to defend himself against his opponent's attacks

Actually Gaara did not use his chakra to control the sand when he had the one-tail inside of him but since it was removed he now controls its with his chakra
