Look at the bottom two panels here. Markings start to appear around his eyes, while he's staying still. And he doesn't have the markings around his eyes earlier.

Before you say "They're just normal markings like Gaara," that's not the case; Gaara's rings around his eyes are due to his lack of sleep (the Shukaku kept him up all night).

Kishi retcon'd the reason for the markings. Rather than lack of sleep, they represent a change in the Chakra nature of one's body. However, these aren't Sage Mode, but rather Magnet Style. Gaara always maintains it, but his dad activates it for battle.

You might actually have a point then...who knows ya know? Look at Hashirama, he had sage mode, but it probably wasn't for an animal.

The random Edo with Magnet Release was only using it in certain objects, not magnetizing / interacting with the whole area like Gaara/his dad. I believe the reason they gain the markings is because, like Sage Mode, they augment their entire body to interact with the area around them. However, it is not a form of Sage Mode, because no Natural Energy is involved.
