How does Pain actually win this though?

Animal Path summons get sealed with sand pyramids. Invisible chamaleon can be detected with sand sensing.
Asura Path missiles simply get blocked by sand, ultimate defense if necessary.
Human path is non-factor
Preta path is non-factor since Madara canonically couldn't absorb Gaara's sand
Naraka path is non-factor pretty much
Deva Path can be sealed or crushed if Gaara takes advantage of the 5 second interval, using the sand under his feet. Gaara's sand is pretty fast.

Im going to have to give scenario 1 to gaara.

I don't see how pain can win if they are in the dessert (which means walking on sand). All gaara has to do it grab the legs of 5 non deva path users and drag them under the sand and instantly crush them. That leaves deva and gaara 1vs1. I don't see deva beating gaara if he cant use CT or gedo. So Gaara takes this.

Nagato defeats gaara with mid - high diff because they are in a dessert..

If this was war arc jinchuuriki gaara then he would most likely win both scenarios
