Gaara cannot beat the 2nd Mizukage!!

Just my opinion. But take away Oonoki, countless fodder, no edo tensei, no knowledge of eachothers ability, and fighting...on a beach where there is water and sand.

Considering how gaara fights, keeps his distance at mid range, always allows opponent to make the first move, usually defends alot, and attacks when he sees an oppening, usually only flies if he's fighting a arieal opponent or doing horribly on the ground

and considering how the mizukage fights, summoning the clam, using the mist to cover and make an illusin while also attacking from afar, we dont know if he can actually use water jutsu.

So here is why i think Gaara would lose, and here is how I think the battle would happen, since they are both long-range fighters, they would either be long range or mid range from eachother, of course, Gaara not knowing that would prepare his sand in for defense in case mizu attacks, meanwhile. Mizu would summon his clam, and create the illusion mist. Gaara, not exactly knowing wtf is going on will prepare his sand to defend him. While the fake mizukage is talking, the real one, who is unseen will hop onto the water and attack from afar. Gaara will be thinking the attacks are coming from the fake illusion but when his attacks are going through, he will be confused, because he's never encountered anything like this before.
eventually, he'll figure out that it has something to do with the clam, and he will attempt to attack the clam, but finds out, its not the real clam. and if any sand gets on the clam, mizukage can shoot his "oily water" on it and make it fall apart. Eventually gaara will be defeated cuz his sand will be useless and mizukage will wear him down.

Gaara was almost annihilated by 2nd mizukage if there wasn't any Onoki helping the kid out....
Gaara is currently doing awesome but 2nd Mizukage was too much for him....

Yep. Gaara would never get passed the clam, or would be really exhausted by the time he finds and destroys the clam. Then he would have to fight jouki boy and we've all seen how jouki boy flys past gaara sand, and this time, jouki boy won't be wasting his time hacking fodder, he will go strait for gaara, and gaara doesn't have gold dust to weigh the clone down.

Mizukage will win.

1,Gaara has shown himself to be one of the best tactical thinkers on the battlefield and was the one who detected Muu and the clam through his sand detection.

2,Gaara was protecting an entire division of the Shinobi army and the Tchuzikage during that fight. Had he not done this, he may have had a consideratble amount less to worry about.

3, His dad's gold dust was a tool Gaara happened to be able to use. You can't fault him there. The same way he used the densest minerals in the soil against Kimimaru.

4,Genjutsu: Gaara has never been caught in Genjutsu, no way of knowing if he's likely or not to fall for it. Doubt it though.

5, Gaara could have taken a far stronger offensive,in my opinion, but I feel he was feeling his oppenent out and watching everyone elses backs. Take away all of Gaara's comrades and Oonoki and all you have left in Gaara, and Mizukage.

Conclude: I think the battle could have gone either way, but frankly without the gold, I don't know how Gaara could have won that fight. So in my eyes it goes to Mizukage(who btw is the element Gaara is weak against) I need to give +rep to Gaara though for not taking any damage and protecting everyone from one of Naruto's strongest Kage's.

Nope. Gotta disagree. Gaara found the Mizukage because the army had a sensor type & due to info he was given. Against Muu Gaara showed himself to be the best sensor the Shinobi army had.
It's possible Gaara could have detected the Mizukage himself,and the clam.

I see what your saying, but just know...

1. that sand was prepared beforehand. Thats the only time he's ever done it because they new akatsuki would march through the desert.

3. he was lucky his father was ressurected that time, or else he would have died.

4. Gaara hasnt fought against a genjutsu user other than mizukage, and he obviously fell for the mirage justsu if it took him so long to find the mizukage. And why WOULDNT gaara be vunerable to genjutsu?

5. He always feels out an opponent, he's done that in ever battle he's been in before he goes on the offensive.

BUUUUUUT. Then again, Gaara could send in a clone, like he did, and lure out the mizukage. he found the mizukage by doing that. BUUUT also, the only reason he thought of that was cuz the battle lasted that long. if its one on one, I think the mizukage would be watching gaara, so if he saw gaara use a clone, he would know. BUUUT gaara could put up a wall of sand and then make the clone so that the mizu wouldnt see what was going on, hahaha

This thread is right. Gaara needed info, he need his father's gold dust, he's no match for the awesomeness of the 2nd Mizukage, he won't even know the clam was casting the illusion in the first place.

I don't think it took Gaara very long to find the clam. Realise Gaara had a lot more going on than simply seeking out the clam. Also, If I'd been in Gaara's position I would have located the clam as stealthily as possible and told no one. That way I'd increase my chances of landing a critical hit and not just throwing everything at it uselessly. Which he did.

Being prepared,is not a bad thing. Also, Gaara has always deployed sand detection in almost every fight. Kimimaru,Sasuke,Deidara,Kage's. It's a smart move and he uses it either before or at the same time as the eye. If you pay close attention when Gaara's near, you'll notice small grains in the air. Check it out. example when Lee's fighting Kimimaru,before Gaara arrives

Dunno if it's so simple. Remember, we see the fights as they happen and the characters use what's around them. If he didn't have what he had, who's to say what he would have used.

Gaara fought Sasuke. Many Shinobi can use genjutsu, I agree though. He hasn't been shown to fight a Genjutsu user.In my view though Gaara is smarter than Sakura and she can get out of Genjutsu/illusions.

Not a bad thing. Although not against Deidara. He was full on. Nor against Ranke(which doesn't count I know) Or against his Dad. Or Madara.

Yeah you're right. Gaara got the clone when he was on the ground and did use the cover of sand to create it and attack the Mizukage. He didn't just do kage bunshin in front of Mr no eyebrows.

Methinks you underestimate the young Kazekage a bit hmm?

He's shown himself to be quite the smarty-pants. Think there's a chance he coulda still won in 1 vs 1.

I do agree though, likely outcome is Mizukage wins.

Gaara sand detected where the claim were,he could destroy the claim by himself or even plug its hole.
If the second mizukage isn't an edo,he would be buried and instantly squashed by sand burial.He needs time for water transformation jutsu.If he uses Jokey Boy,Gaara can do the same thing.The only difference here between gold and sand is that gold conducts heat better.

Gaara wasn't exactly full power (he had just been fighting his father and muu) and mizukage had the only thing that could break down gaara's sand (the oily suiton). it was one of the worst if not worst possible matchups for gaara and he still found a way to win
