Forgotten fact about MS

I have noticed that on this base there is a huge misconception about the Mangekyo Sharingan. People keep saying that to awaken the Mangekyo sharingan, one must witness the death of a loved one. This is not entirely true. If you believe this, you are mixing up two different things.

In the above page, you can see Tobirama talking about how an Uchiha awakens the BASE sharingan. An Uchiha awakens the Base sharingan by feeling pain, often by the death of a loved one. Sasuke awakened it during the Uchiha clan Massacre and Obito awakened it when he was afraid that Kakashi and Rin would die.

There is a very specific way to awaken the Mangekyo Sharingan. that is:

You must KILL someone close to you.

Itachi got it by killing Shisui (Shisui let Itachi kill him)

Madara and Izuna got it by killing their unnamed friends.

Sasuke awakend it by killing Itachi (Itachi let Sasuke win)

Obito and kakashi awakned it because kakashi killed Rin and their Sharingans are connected

It is unknown how Shisui awakened it.

Now merely killing them is not enough. What Tobirama said applies here too. One must really feel the pain of losing a close one. That is why Sasuke could not awaken it until he found the Truth about Itachi. Also it is implied that Obito awakened MS because he witnessed Rin's Death (along with Kakashi killing her).

I meant that while it was necessary for kakashi to kill Rin, Obito had to be there to witness it to awaken the MS. If someone else had killed Rin, Neither of them would have awakened MS.

I disagree. I don't think one necessarily needs to kill their loved one to obtain MS. Sasuke didn't REALLY kill Itachi either. Itachi died from his disease and exhaustion, honestly. And apart from that, let's say Sasuke didn't find out the truth about Itachi from Obito, he wouldn't have unlocked MS because he hated Itachi. I believe the trauma from learning the truth made Sasuke unlock his MS, not the fact that he "killed" his brother.

I dont agree that the killing a friend is a must.
It all come down to strong feelings, new level of hate will awaken it.
Itachi most likely had MS prior to shisui as danzo mentioned he saw amaterasu b4, which could only happen on missions.
