When you put it that way Team Gai was a boss squad. 2 gates users, a Byakugan user, and a weapons specialist. Only one even close is the current Team Kakashi: 3 former black ops, a overpowered medic, and a tailed beast host.

Actually Neji could easily fodderize Sasuke. He can counter any of Hebi Sasukes skills. (im not talking about ms Sasuke)
If Kishi gave a Biakugan powerup, i think Neji>Ms Sasuke. Unfortunately he didnt plan Neji to be a main character.

Well, I told people Kishi is easily getting back to Part 1. He will be closing every character development with something related to part 1.
