This thread I'd just begging for ridiculous claims, obviously none of the main or secondary characters are girders by your definition as they all served a purpose regardless of if they won or lost a battle.

However you would depict the word "fodder" by what people usually mean when they say it then there are plenty of them.

Fodder- a shinobi that just plain sucks.

How about when pain was attacking the village, konohamaru had to save his teacher from one of the paths of pain, he was a fodder imo.

So do you even know what makes a true ninja grow stronger? By protecting the lines they love. Kishimoto did not put them there so they can just die like you said. They are there to protect there world.

Here's the definition!

Main Entry: fod·der
Pronunciation: \ˈfä-dər\
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English fōdor; akin to Old High German fuotar food — more at food
Date: before 12th century
1 : something fed to domestic animals; especially : coarse food for cattle, horses, or sheep
2 : inferior or readily available material used to supply a heavy demand <fodder for tabloids>
— fodder transitive verb

I think the bolded pretty much says it right there lol

Shedding light on the subject seeing as many of you want to know the definition of FODDER, taken from urbandictionary.com, some are funny and unrelated buts heres all of them

1.fodder
One who's sole existence is to absorb projectiles

I attract bullets, so I've assumed the role of team fodder.

2. Fodder

A person treated like a tool meant to die.

"Send the fodders to distract them while we carry our supplies across the river."

3. Fodder
Bantha Fodder. Used to express something foul, as derived from the Star Wars sense.
Also, "bullshit!"; something that is no good, a load of crap or a sketchy place/situation.
An expression.

1: "Mr. Lassiter said the assignment was due today."
2: "That's fodder! He said no such thing!"

"Daawg, this place is pretty fodder...."

4. Fodder
Food. Grub. Chow. Cuisine. Edibles. Nosh. Nourishment.

Got any more of that *DELICIOUS* fodder?

5. Fodder

a)The concept of dowding the lily in a lyrical format.
b)A Generic nightmare scenario.
c)A person less desirable than the recognised national average of personalised wellness.

a)Friend, commence with creating an undulating flow of electropathic waves through the cathode ray tube image discharge dispenser at once, i do wish to indulge myself with serial outputs of intellectually devoid entertainment. (Put the TV on)
b)A lad meets a girl at a nightclub. Gets langered. Goes back to hers to thrust his turgor leatherhead between her labial pincers. Towards commencement of semen secretion, he finds that she has placed a funnel up his rectal passage. Upon ecstatic euphoric explosion of ejaculate, he finds he has soiled himself uncontrollably. In shame he goes to the toilet to wash himself, upon returning he finds her on a plastic sheet rubbing the faecal stools into her morally disturbed crevices. (Nightmare scenario)

6. Fodder
corn meal for livestock

White Zetsu clones are fodder, the regular shinobi troops are fodder.
The same kind of shinobi 3rd raikage can take 100 000 of himself
As for side characters, no they aren't fodder (K11). Saying they are is trolling
The perfect definition of fodder is the marines in One Piece lol

this all depends on wat u call fodder :| it will mean different things for different people ... to me fodder is someone that isnt displayed in the manga and has next to no feats and zero hype and is only there to fill the gaps

i can see where ur coming from because in the eyes of those ninja so to speak they all have something they are fighting for .... i suppose a better phrase would be that they are just extra's rather than fodder :|

Your ability to produce a good reason why sakura is fodder is just sad -_-
She is the top 3 medical ninja in kohana.tsunade is the best then comes shizune and right behind her is sakura.
Don't hate appreciator.

The word "fodder" here is supposed to have a different meaning than the one you saw in the dictionary.
Is every member of the Shinobi Aalliance a brave warrior who is willing to risk his life for a cause? You are right! However, if you see them this way you will not be able to grasp the concept of fodder. To understand the meaning you must see the characters in a meta sense, out of the story.

A fodder is basically a character with no actual relevance to the plot of a story, they usually don't even receive names and are pretty much part of the background.
Did you notice that one nameless jounin that fell to a kunai in the corner of the page without anyone noticing? He is a fodder. That one ANBU who was onely there to compliment the skills of the main character and was never seen again afterwards? Fodder. That pile of corpses that were just killed by the enemy's technique and no reader cared. They were fodders. The Aburame Deidara blew up? Fodder. Tajiki? More fodder.
When the author drew this character he didn't intend any important use for him, that's what a fodder is. They are only there to make large death counts, being guinea pigs to showcase the firepower of a technique, give gratuitous exposition or just because the panel was too empty and needed more characters. They don't play any role in the main plot other than usually dying and making statistics because the readers couldn't care less about the mooks. No reader is going to miss Zetsu Clone #54378 or mist nin #8765 after all.

Note that fodders are not always the same as weak persons, kinda. If the author wants to show how badass is the new character he wants to introduce he will pick some nameless ANBUs and make said character stomp them all. That works because ANBUs are supposed to be elite ninjas, so if a character kills a dozen of them he is quickly estabilished as a threat, but no, these ninjas that were just killed were not important despite being high ranked and that's because the writter mercilessly discarded them. If the author needs gratuitous deaths expect them to be the first ones to die.
