Fleeting
Our journey began by a chance meeting,
One I never foresaw, or knew would come,
But when it arrived, it was like a new year’s greeting,
A precursor to the best times…and the worst thing I’d done.
On the days we met again, my heart began to yearn,
What for, I initially knew not what for,
But it wasn’t long after that I learnt,
That my heart had soon become yours.
I revealed my affection to you, and let you decide,
If you should have me be yours, and to my incredible joy,
You let me into your world, so I let my feelings untie,
And embraced you like a small, young boy.
You and I could never have been happier,
I loved you more than anything else, my gift to you,
The times we spent together, savouring each other’s laughter,
What we had couldn’t have been truer.
We overcame what stood in our way,
And in turn grew closer, we pledged to be together forever,
I was there for you, just as you for me, when you were led astray,
The strings of our love were something I would never sever.
Though one day, I awoke to the sound of my phone,
You asked to see me, so I rushed away,
You told me things I never thought I’d hear, the seeds of doubt sown,
In that moment and forever after, my world turned to gray.
I gave you my world, yet you did not feel what I did,
Do not insist you were at fault, for that isn’t true,
It was mine for making you endure, when your true feelings were hid,
So I will say it one last time before we part;
“I love you”.
