So with those two awsome abilities .. what the hell did the first hokage do in order to beat someone who can portal around without be traced or sensed since even Kirin couldn't sense his chakra and it just popped out of nowhere, and the ability to make attacks pass right through him? His wood (lol) kekegenkai was strong and all but i really doubt it was enough to stop him? ..Thoughts?

Well Madara didn't actually fight the fourth .. he used the Kyubii to attack Konoha while he was in the back controlling it. Who knows what the outcome of 1v1 no Kyubii, would've been like between Yondaime and Madara.
