"Yeesh, 7 in the morning", Kakashi thought to himself as he walked down the empty streets of The Hidden Leaf Village. "Even the shopkeepers aren't up at this hour. Whatever kind of mission Lady Hokage has for us, it must be important.". Just an hour ago, Kakashi had recieved a notice that he and his team were to report to the Hokage's mansion for an audience with Tsunade and a briefing on their next mission. "I just hope there's enough time to eat before we leave, or else Naruto will complain to whole way.". He stopped short and took a left down the alleyway towards the apartment complex. "I'd better wake that knucklehead up first. He's usually a late riser.", he thought as he proceeded to Naruto's apartment door.
"Naruto! Wake up!", Kakashi shouted as he knocked on the door, when suddenly it fell completely off its hinges and into the apartment with a crash. "Man, this place is coming apart. He should hire a cleaner once a month if he can afford this much food.". Kakashi waded his way through the empty Ramen cups that covered the floor of the kitchen and found Naruto passed out halfway inside his room. "Someones had a hard night, eh?". "Naruto? Are you alright?". No answer. "Naruto?". A slight movement. *WHACK* "Naruto! Wake up already!". Naruto's eyes snapped open and he nearly jumped right out of his bedroom window. "AGHHHHH KAKASHI SENSEI! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TRYING TO DO, KICKING ME IN MY SLEEP?! ARE YOU TRYING TO GIVE ME A HEART ATTACK?!". Kakashi chuckled, "Well the thought did cross my mind, i'll admit. Now get dressed and grab all your gear, Tsunade requested an audience with us in about ten minutes.". "What? A mission?" Naruto's eyes lit up, and he was suddenly wide awake, "We're getting a mission? What kind of mission, huh Kakashi Sensei?". Kakashi sighed, "Well we won't know until we get there now will we? So get yourself ready and meet me outside so we can go get Sai and Sakura". He wasn't waiting very long, and in 30 seconds they were on their way to Sakura's house. "Boy, when he's motivated the kid sure does move fast.". Soon they arrived and were surprised when Sakura answered the door. "Oh! Kakashi Sensei and Naruto! What's going on?". "Good Morning Sakura.", Kakashi said, "We've been requested to meet with Lady Hokage and get briefed for our next mission". Sakura was shocked. "Tsunade Sensei is up this early?! That's definitely a first. It must be something important. I'll be right out.". "Hey Kakashi Sensei", Naruto said, "Will we at least get to eat something before we leave? I'm starving!". "You ate all those cups of Ramen on your floor and you're starving, eh?". Kakashi shook his head, "You could probably go without eating for a week"." "Hahaha! No eating for a week! Thats funny Kakashi Sensei!".
As the trio walked towards the Hokage's Mansion, Naruto suddenly stopped and looked about. Sakura looked back. "Grrrrr what is it Naruto? We're going to be late and we still ahve to go get Sai!". Naruto continued to look with a wary gleam in his eyes. "Somethings not right, Sakura. I'm not sure exactly what but i think we're being follo-." "Ahhh noticed me finally, did you?", and just like that Sai dropped in front of the group out of seemingly nowhere, causing Naruto to nearly lose his footing. "AGHHHHHHH! SAI! IS EVERYONE TRYING TO SCARE THE CRAP OUT OF ME TODAY?!". Sai's expression remained blank and one of his eyebrows raised. "What's he so worked up about?". "Never mind him", said Kakashi, "He's not much of a morning person. Now come one, we've got some business with Lady Tsunade.". "Alright... and sorry about that Naruto.". "Hmph..".
The morning sun broke out over the mountains as team 7 walked into the Hokage's office. "Team 7 reporting, Lady Tsunade. You wanted to speak with us?" Tsunade looked up from her paperwork, still looking half asleep. "Yes... yes i did. I have a mission i think your team would be suited to Kakashi.". Naruto couldn't hold his excitement any longer. "Well? what kind of mission is it Granny, huh?". Tsunade let out a sigh. "It's too early for this..." "Your assignment is a diplomatic mission to the Land of Mountains. Two villages there are having a dispute, and the Tsuchikage has requested a team of Leaf ninja to help resolve the issue.". "Oonoki?", Kakashi asked, "What of his own ninja?". Tsunade suddenly stiffened. "That's the disturbing part. Any Ninja that aren't otherwise occupied are disappearing. He barely has enough Chuunin and Jounin to maintain order. Finding them will be your secondary objective".
Sakura's eyes widened. "Chuunins and Jounins... gone missing? This can't be your everyday dispute is there are strange things like THAT happening.... "Odd. there's definately more to this than there seems.", Sai thought to himself. This also puzzled Kakashi, but wasn't quite enough to faze Naruto. "Don't worry granny, we'll find all those ninja and get the villages to stop fighting in no time flat! We'll be back before you know it!". "Hmph", Tsunade thought, "Hyperactive, as always."
"Alright, here is a map of the area and some Ryo for the road. I suggest you leave immediately. The Land of Mountains is nearly a 4 day trip on foot.". This was enough to take Naruto's excitement down a notch. "...4 days? Aw, c'mon Granny Tsunade can't you suggest a quicker way? Like maybe we could take a boat or something?". Tsunade shrugged her shoulders, "By Boat, on foot, any way you slice it, its a four day trip, so deal with it.". "Grrrr, why do we always get the long walks" Naruto thought. "Alright, Team 7, you're dismissed. Get a move on!".
"Alright", Kakashi said after they had exited the Mansion, "You heard Lady Hokage. This'll be a long trip, so go home and pack all your gear. We'll meet in 15 minutes at the front gate". "Right!", shouted Sakura and Sai, and they disappeared. Naruto turned to Kakashi "Hey, Kakashi Sensei, you don't suppose i could grab a bite to eat at Ichiraku Ramen do you? I sort of, uh, ran out of my own heheheheh." "14 Minutes and 46 seconds.", Kakashi said, looking at his watch. "Eat fast." "Right!", said Naruto, and he was gone as well. "Ah, well, that takes care of them for a bit.".
The streets were beginning to populate now, and the shop doors were opening as Kakashi walked past. "There's something i don't like about this", He mused, "Missing Ninja, and a fight between two villages run by rich clans. Just the way i wanted to spend my week.". He sighed, and went to prepare himself for the arduous travel ahead.
As Naruto, Sakura, and Sai waited for Kakashi, the sun rose steadily overhead. "Aghh, he always does this!" Naruto exclaimed, "He told us to meet him here in 15 minutes, and that was 15 minutes ago!" Sai nodded "I agree, this is going to be a long walk. the Land of Mountains is known for its extremely rough terrain. If we waste any more time we might be walking into a situation we don't want to get involved in". "Which is exactly why we should be getting a move on.", said Kakashi as he suddenly appeared behind them. "HEY, YOU'RE LATE!!" Sakura and Naruto burst out in tandem. "Well, you know me" Kakashi said with an obvious smile. "Well, are we all set?" Naruto suddenly became excited once more. "You bet we are! I even packed us some Ramen Cups for the trip.". "Well then," said Kakashi, "Lets get moving!". Naruto jumped up and exclaimed "All right! Next stop: The Land of Mountains!".
