Finger genjutsu is not even really a genjutsu in itself. It's actually Itachi using a different body part to launch his genjutsu from.
Hence, this why it's not enough just to avoid eye contact against Itachi -- he can cast genjutsu without using his eyes. He can even cast Tsukuyomi like this.
