Story doesn't carry though each. The worlds and characters change for every FF.

A good one to start off on would probably be ff7 or ff12
Not sure about European version I'd assume it'd be in English.

the best ones in my opinion are FF7, FF9 & FF10.
12 is garbage dont even waste your time seriously. if you play 12 its gonna leave a bad impression. so i suggest stay away from that shitty game. however 13 looks awesome.

If you want to really want to get into FF you need to start with FF 5 then go to crisis core, then ff7 and right after dirge of cerberes. Afterwards you need to go take a break and watch advent children and then eat something. Next you continue your ff career to ff8, then 9, and then 10. Then you think to yourself if you want to play an mmo because 10-2 is the worse piece of **** ever. o_O If not then skip ff 11 the mmo and head to 12. Finally slam down 13 whenever you can. :O

Well the numbered versions (I, II, III)
aren't related
but certain games that belong to the same saga are (VII and VII Crisis Core, ETC.)

Good game to start with mmm

VII, VIII, IX, X
XII is a good game but the gameplay is totally different from the common FF
If you're planning on playing FFXIII first that's a good choice as well, the game is extremely good even though I couldn't understand teh storyline >.<

each one of the FF series is different than the other, each one has a story of it's own
i'd recommend starting with VII(7) or IX(9) or X(10)
or just wait till march 9th and start with XIII(13) :D

8 was the worst one. Static characters, boring story, and I just hated everything about it. I guess the gunsword was cool, but for like 2 hours =/.

I hated 1 through 3, didn't play 4, 5 was one of the best and so much possibilities, 6 is one I barely remember since I played it at a friends house which I went over very little, 7 is the best to me in combination with ff7 crisis core, Dirge of cerberes is a game I never played but i heard was ok. 8 was the worst and 9 followed that theme... I'm sorry for any fans out there for those, but that is my opinion. 10 was a great game and I enjoyed everything about it, but they ruined it with 10-2 even though they brought the job system back which made me happy. 11, the mmo, has nothing or even anything remotely close to the FF series so thats just something I played for 3 years. 12 I didn't really like since I didn't care for half of the characters making me dislike playing the game. Friend helped me beat it since I couldn't stand some of the voice acting as well. I hope 13 is great... and 14, the new ff mmo, is something i've been waiting for. Beta in 4 months :O

FF9 and FF8 are utterly different from each other. Infact FF9 was so different it didn't really fit in but it set phase to new character designs and battle systems.

I don't think you played it >___>
FF9 Story = Amazing
FF8 is boring though.

Sorry I think you misunderstood my pun. I meant that 9 followed the theme of 8's boring and horrible story/characters/gameplay. I must say I can claim that I played any of the FFs I hate since I just did it to go though and see if they are any good. If they weren't good to me then I just speed through it and pretend I never wasted my time with it. :O

This is all my opinions and again I'm sorry to any and all FF 1,2,3,8,9,10-2, and 12 fans... They all didn't really make me enjoy the FF experience like I did with 5,7,Crisis Core, 10, and 11. You can call me picky or even call me a fake for FF fan, but the games and comments I said about them are 100 percent true in my eyes.

I didn't mean to provoke you. ._.

Just FF9 was meant to be "different", and I see it as one of the most entertaining story of the series.

The I,II,IV,V and VI were all good, dont know about III,its only in Jap.
Maybe the fact that you guys didnt like most of the game after VII'th is probably the battle and leveling system, and the IX'th probably due to new style of character design, limited customization and battle system. But for me in Story-wise all series were good,i mean afterall final fantasy started long time ago so changes in gameplay is highly likely, along with next gen gaming style. The XII free roam battle is probably due to the fact that some people dont play mmorpg(or dont hv good pc or internet connection) so they made a similar battle system as XI(character design was different because it was a different artist+the original musician retired)

Id have to say FF7 and its "brothers" just because out of all the FF games ive played they have had the most dynamic characters and stories. Also the names have hidden meanings, which to me adds a new dynamic to a game

The best ones in my opinion are 7, 8, 9, and 10. Uematsu leaves shortly after and the music isnt nearly as good. and the characters/story of these games are like reading a good book

The ones from 7 and up are really great, except the ones online, they're garbage. 7 by far has the best storyline I've ever seen in a video game and coupled with crisis core, its a really badass combo. Dirge of cerberus is good if you're a vincent fan, if not then you can probably pass on it. FF8 isn't that boring, it's just a different spin on things and i extremely different plot, it's more like high school kids as the characters to be honest. 9 is good as well, i dont remember much about it but i remember i enjoyed it. 10 is also really good, it moves back towards the ff7 feel a little bit but it keeps it's on style about it.X-2 which is the sequel of 10, BLOWS. The fighting system is odd and the characters whine a loooooooooot more. 11 and 12 i never played because they looked like crap. 13 is amazing, it will definitely get you used to the ff tactics that are used throughout all of them as far as using your elements and attacks in sych to cause the most damage, the story itself is extremely good, although a little confusing at first and you'll prob find some characters to be more useful than others.
