Final Fantasy XV to be an open world Skyrim-killer?

The last couple of Final Fantasy instalments may have been a little polarising, but the series isn’t showing any signs of slowing, even if there’s going to be no sign of a HD remake of Final Fantasy VII any time soon.

The next game in the series, Final Fantasy XV, which has been in development for four years, is apparently going to push the boat out, moving in the total opposite direction to the relatively linear previous two games.

Instead of this move to a more restrictive format, FFXV will, according to GamesMaster, feature an open world that’s supposedly going to be larger in scale than Skyrim’s, with large, open cities and even more content that the Bethesda epic.

The title, headed by Final Fantasy veteran, Hiroyuki Ito, who has previously worked on FF VI, IX and XII will sport Assassin’s Creed-like urban areas, and will also feature a reworked battle system, something of a trend on FF releases, one that will take several pointers from Square classic, Vagrant Story.

As in the real-time PS1 RPG, the battle system here will allow players to target specific limbs, which will no doubt make for some typically tactics-heavy FF encounters, and punishing boss fights.

Also according to rumours, Final Fantasy XV will also release on current-gen platforms, and not the next generation, meaning that the game should arrive relatively soon.

I should point out, however, that there have been no official announcements regarding this, but, if the rumours are true, Final Fantasy may be moving into new areas that could help the series find a whole new audience.

If this a whole different game it would be strange, since there are so many similar things in this rumor that Versus 13 is supposed to have. But anyway it's just a rumor until Square makes an announcement.

XV is not XIII versus and thats because the people behind the 2 games are different and the battle system is different. Also sony paid square enix for it to be ps3 only and XV is multiplatform. And the setting is alo different.

No problem

I kind of liked the FFXIII combat. It was fast and engaging. It made me feel as though I were in the midst of battle and that I add to make choices quick. But I can understand that it was lackluster and it did get repetitive hitting auto-battle.

Yeah, I figured this is a different game when I saw that Nomura isn't working on this supposed Final Fantasy XV since he is working on Versus 13.

Meh, as a fan of their newer games (which got me into the series I might add) I can't say their sucky but I understand that a lot of fans feel that way and want KH3 and Vs13. We just have to be patient :/

The newer games aren't necessarily bad, but they feel like copies of the older ones... they aren't as thrilling as let's say FFX or FFXII (although many disagree on the second one ). Maybe the genre of JRPGs is just changing, the last good one I played was SMT: Persona 4, all else range from mediocre to boring to me... Everyone just goes for shooters aymore, and so do the companies >.>

It's true, we've got to be patient, though I 've got to say that the concept of a KH3 scares me a bit xD I heard a rumor yesterday that SE wanted to cancel Versus XIII... really hope it's not true >.<
