“Tick….tock….tick….” responded the clock to the bored adults. A mini bar in a cold basement sitting in the bar stools, was where they were spending their time until the new years. Carol sat there staring into space thinking of unknown things. Marinta and Rachel were in a heated discussion on Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”.
“I told you for the last time Romeo is stupid pansy who was stupid enough not to notice Juliet was alive!! Hell he even said her cheeks were red!” cried Marinta. Rachel put her hands on her hips after abruptly standing up.
“He was supposed have a fatal flaw in order for the story to have a closer feel. Plus I think it was romantic,” she retorted. Marinta rolled her eyes in response. Carol cut in.
“Will the both of you stop arguing. It’s nearly midnight. Don’t argue, please….”tagging on the last part. The other two clammed up. All three were the best of friends since middle school and they were like family. Each one with a mysterious past. The countdown began and as tradition would have it they were to make a wish. 10.…..The three turned to the TV above…….9.…8...7...6...5..putting their hands in a prayer….4...3...simultaneously they thought “I wish…..2.….we could go to the place…..1.…..we belong.”….0! There was applause on the TV. The three friends turned to one another and smiled. They threw their coats on and walked upstairs.
All throughout the house were drunk people all over the place. The place belonged to Carol’s co-worker Ken. He was a party boy and pervert, a very perfect combination. Right when the drinks came out they went downstairs to hide. The whole place smelled like ***. It was vile. You could barely see the furniture because all the passed out drunks. Rachel walked out the back door ushering the other two to follow. Carol wittily thought of parking the car on the street behind Ken’s house so it didn’t get damaged.
“Come on Carol! You walk like a snail,” yelled Marinta from the car. Rachel and Carol were way behind taking their time.
“Hold your horses M&M. We are on our way,” laughed Carol. At this point Rachel pulled out her copy of “Romeo and Juliet”, which she read like a million times, and began to read it….again. Carol pulled out her keys and unlocked the car when she was about a foot away. When the lights flashed Marinta flung the back door open and jumped in the back seat which was a very warm white leathered seat. The car’s model was that of an old-ass mustang that was a midnight purple color. Swinging the driver door open, Carol got into the driver seat and turned on the ignition, while Rachel opened the passenger door and sat as she read her book.
The car slowly became warmer as the heater kicked in. The three sat in the car for a short time until Rachel chirped in.
“Get the damn car moving. I don’t want any retarded drunk people following us.” Earning a entertained smile from Marinta and a smirk from Carol. Kicking the old car into high gear, they drove off. The house was pretty far where the three lived, far meaning an hour car ride about a quarter of the way there Marinta began to sing “100 bottles of beer on the wall”. At about the 80th bottle something strange began to happen. An eerie wind began to pick up. Suddenly the car stopped working, making the car skid very quickly in the middle of the road. Carol got of the car and looked at the engine. It was smoking badly making her cough. She closed the lid and looked at Rachel and Marinta.
“Looks like we have to walk about 25 minutes to get to the nearest gas station.” Rachel peered above her book and Marinta lazily looked at her. Both had the same reply.
“Damn…..”
Marinta was the only one with a bottomless bag so she was in charge of carrying makeup and other stuff like cell phones, which weren’t charged. They were always too lazy to charge their phone. Luckily Carol and Rachel were wearing comfy gym shoes while Marinta had 2 inch pin heels that hurt like hell. Nonetheless the three continued to walk until all the street lights went out. Rachel shut her book and looked around. Carol and Marinta exchanged glances. Something was happening and neither of them liked it. In the blink of an eye a strange circle with mysterious writing appeared underneath them glowing a vibrant green. The only thing they all saw after was blackness
