Hey everyone, I'm back on NB for the World Cup, so hoping this thread will be as much of a blast as the Euro 2016 one was. And obviously, I'm aiming at winning this one as well like I did last time :rolleyes:;

Now I went missing last World Cup on here, but I do recall from Escorpiius that there was something extra special in it that the Euro 2016 lacked;

Do you have plans for something similar this time around as well Caliburn when we get to the Final to spice things up? And, the last World Cup thread had a poll before the World Cup started with all the Nations, where you could vote on which team you thought would win the Trophy just to see where people were leaning, nothing like that this time??

Also, wouldn't it be better to Sticky this thread for the duration of the World Cup? Not that it really will matter I suppose, but still...

Other than that, like in the Euro 2016 I'll be rooting for Portugal first, then Spain second, and also just like the Euro 2016 I've placed the exact same bet now on Portugal winning the tournament like I did for the Euro 2016 before the tournament started, a bet that ended up going all the way (lucky me).

Dream Final: Portugal - Argentina.

Realistic Final; Brazil - Germany or Spain - Brazil, maybe...

My bet on Top Scorer; CR7.

Likely to be amongst the top scorers or even the Top Scorer; Griezmann, Messi.

Its either Netherlands or Italy will win this year WC
I'm thinking Wales or Chile :rolleyes:

Also I recall your name from 2 years ago... Good.

4 years ago I added all the teams in a poll, but I'm not planning to do that this time as then you get a poll with 32 options, which is just too long. Though I don't think that poll had anything attached to it. I doubt there would be that many people that would cast a vote these days, so it seems kinda pointless. I might do something for the final though.

Spain just sacked their manager two days ahead of their first WC game. I think this is going to give Spain a huge blow in their WC challenge.
Also this whole thing was really poorly handled by Real Madrid, why didn't they wait until after the WC?

Because apparently Real contacted Ramos about Lopetegui, what he thought of him potentially becoming the new coach of Real and he was keen on the idea. Of course that info then went from him to the other Real-players in the Spanish selection. With other words half the team already knew about it, so it's easy for rumors to spread among the other players. So Real decided to beat everyone to the punch rather than having it slipping out during the tournament.

I can imagine their chances of winning suddenly took a huge dive with the bookmakers xd It's this kind of shenanigans that made Spain preform underwhelming on major football tournaments for the longest time.

Yeah from what I could see it was just for decorative purposes. As for the Euro 2016 thread I do recall you added a poll on the final so that's probably a more proper way to do it.

As for the other thing, it would be fun if you did something similar as with the last World Cup, heck, I even contacted Escorpiius yesterday to try to get him on here for the World cup as well, reminding him of how he nailed the prediction last time xD He would consider coming on here for old times' sake while it's on he said, so we shall see if he can be bothered to bring his infamous in-depth analysis from a bygone age an one last time or not indeed.

Just read about it. Hierro appointed the new coach (at least for the World Cup). If you ask me it's totally crazy how they've handled it, and I don't think anyone is to blame really. I mean, I read what the President of the Spanish Federation (?) said on the reasoning for sacking him but I still think it's completely insane doing so less than two days before your first match. It's not the first time a team has negotiate with a National coach to take over after a big international cup like this, but I've never heard of a National team going with such a drastic approach. Like throwing all your Money on a Russian Roulette if you ask me...

I already have a small bet on Portugal beating Spain but if I knew this would happen, I would certainly have increesed it, lol.

As for tomorrow's opening game, I'm sadly at late-night shift so I won't be seeing it. I'll however throw in my prediction already and call a 2-0 win to Russia. I'll either be back after work to share my thoughts on the result or come back on Friday to talk about those matches, we shall see.

PS: Having been away from the Base for as long as I have, I feel like my written English is a bit rusty so in advance, pardon any mistakes, lmao.

Imo Real Madrid are certainly to blame in this case, they should've kept their mouths shut until after the World Cup and not leak it to Ramos or other RMA players.

But sacking him because of that went a bit overboard imo, did the non real players really make that big of a deal out of it?

I’m not expecting a crap from our national Saudi team. It’s natural. Yet it’s painful to watch or even think about it. Football in Saudi Arabia is garbage. They could even dream about winning Asia Cup.
