Final Fantasy Versus XIII is an action role-playing game developed and published by Square Enix for the Sony PlayStation 3 video game console. Alongside Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII, the game is a part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII compilation. Unveiled at E3 2006, the game focuses on a mysterious protagonist who is the last heir of a dynasty ruling over the only remaining city to control crystals. Under unforeseen circumstances, he makes a stand against marauders seeking to take the crystal as their own.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII is, according to its developers, a wholly independent story unfolding with different characters and a different visual design. Although it is set within the same Final Fantasy XIII universe, it is unrelated to any other entry within the compilation and is thus neither a sequel nor a prequel to any other entries in Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy XIII.
Gameplay
Unlike Final Fantasy XIII, there is scarcely any information surrounding the gameplay and battle system of Final Fantasy Versus XIII because no formal footage has been shown by Square Enix of the gameplay online or within video game magazines.
But Nomura (I love calling him like that xD) has stated one thing, gameplay will be a mixture from Infinite Undiscovery and Kingdom Hearts and will not use the ATB system that is featured in FF XIII and FF AGITO XIII, and will also include a third person shooting system, really similar to the one of FF VII DIRGE OF CERBERUS, which featured gameplay with Vincent Valentine (if you havent played it, I recomend it). Nomura also stated that unlike KH which was a game full of light and good, this one will be darker, a lot darker, and in a world taht is meant to counter previous FF installments. Unlike other FF?s this game has a greater display of graphic violence with an instance of blood as shown in the trailer.
Plot
First of all we are returning to Crystals and living Materia behind.Very little information regarding the plot of the game has been revealed since E3 2006 however, Square Enix representatives have commented that Versus may be the darkest Final Fantasy game yet.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII revolves around a prince called Noctis Lucis Caelum (god damm, that is an awesome name xD) who is the last heir to an unnamed kingdom in which the last Crystal is kept. Noctis kingdom has been isolated from the outside world, and we dont know anything else about it. The game is set in two nations battle, each other fighting to rule the last crystal which is held in Noctis?kingdom. The game has said to start after the end of a lon War between nations that revolved around crystals
Characters
Noctis
The protagonist of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Noctis is a young man with dark bluish-silver hair and dark blue eyes. However, the color of both his eyes and his hair have been shown to change during battle; his eyes have turned from blue to crimson. Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that the color changes are both intentional and significant. It has been confirmed that he is the last heir to the dynasty ruling over the last kingdom to control Crystals. He attempts to protect his kingdom against marauders who seek to conquer the city and take the Crystals by force. Nomura has compared Noctis's family to the modern-day Japanese mafia, or Yakuza. His name, revealed at TGS 2008, is Latin for, "of the night", and "Noct" is his nickname.
Noctis wields multiple weapons as seen in both the E3 2006 and the PlayStation Premier trailers. The weapons that he wields range from swords to spears to lances. As seen through the trailers, he can control them with telekinesis through the power of the Crystal, and he has been seen using them for both attack and defense. Nomura has stated that each weapon will have a different usage and is not directly limited by normal standards of attack; in other words, some weapons will also be usable as shields (as seen in the trailers). The protagonist has also demonstrated the ability to teleport or to suddenly move at a high speed similar to many anime characters abilities, though it is unknown what role this skill will have in the actual gameplay.
Stella
Stella is a blonde girl who has been shown opposite Noctis, and is described as an unfortunate enemy to him. Famitsu and other sources claim that the two do not desire to fight each other, but they are forced to. She wields a rapier and is a confirmed enemy, though her allegiances are still under suspicion. Her name is Latin for "star."
Unknown
Noctis also has three companions which have been revealed in video game magazine, Famitsu. The first of these characters is a man with light brown hair and glasses who is seen wearing a suit and driving the protagonist's car. The second character is a bulkier man with dark brown hair and a scar on the left side of his face. The third character is a young blond man carrying a shotgun, despite a ban on firearms in his country.
Another character, wearing all white (possibly a symbolic contrast to the protagonist's darker clothing), has been introduced as well. This character is seen facing off with Noctis in a building near his castle as they both cast spells at each other, implying that they are enemies.
Mysterious soldiers have been featured in the trailers as well. These unknown warriors wear medievally-styled armor but also carry assault rifles resembling modern automatic weapons. It is known that some of these soldiers are marauders trying to take the crystals as their own.
Another man, older than Noctis and dressed in a business suit, appears sitting at the head of a long table as a chairman during a meeting with several other men. Because he and Noctis have similar eyes, it is speculated that the two are related.
