Hunted by a Tailed Demon
By Fitz
No time to think. No time for a plan. My only method for survival is to keep on running. My only hope is to encounter a village that would fend for me. The trees might conceal me but I couldn’t will my tired legs to jump to the nearest branch. There was no path that I followed. No sense of direction or any way of knowing where I was. I had to get away. Deeper in to the forest. Where the darkness engulfed me and perhaps would hide me from my tormentor. Since the start of my flight I did not dare to look behind me. Curiosity did not get the better of me. With every second that passed my body gave way to more pain. My lungs flared with pain and my sides pleaded for rest. My body was battered with thorns and nettles from running blindly. My mind no longer cared for rationality. Fear is what drove me.
I couldn’t stop. I could face the demon but only to be ripped apart in pieces. Only to quench its bloodthirsty desire to feed. Only to gift it with the satisfaction of its kill. I rejected the thought and kept on going. There was nothing in my arsenal that could prepare me for such an atrocity. Kunai and explosives were a minor hindrance to this beast and to no consequence. I had seen its savage eyes already. They were filled with the inhuman desire to hunt. To kill its prey. I would not allow myself to be caught. Keep on running. Keep on going.
No matter if my blood created a trail for it to follow me. No matter if I was drained of energy. I had to survive for the village. I had to survive for my family. Then my body went numb. I could not feel any pain. I could not feel the thorns impaled to my feet. My blood felt unfamiliar and cold against my skin. I could only see darkness and have a feeling of going somewhere. In that moment I heard its blood curdling shriek. It had found me. For days I had been in flight but that no longer mattered. I realized that it had all been a game for this fiend. It was toying with me. Giving me a shred of hope for surviving then ripping it away from me. It basked in my fear. Please why god? Why me? Tears ran down my face as I ran towards the nothingness. I could hear it getting closer. Trees were being uprooted with its power. The sky turned scarlet dark with the demons arrival. Its claws screeched against the rocks on the ground. Its footsteps were like thunder crackling against the silent forest. I could only imagine how its mouth salivated with the thought of its next meal.
Then I discovered a clearing. I didn’t care what was on the other side. I had to escape. Within a minute I had crossed over. Sunshine blinded me for a second then I fixed my vision. I was on the edge of a cliff. My fate was sealed. I no longer cared for anything. My body collapsed in utter hopelessness. This was it. I knew my fate. I wailed for my new born son and for the wife I would leave behind. Sadness was my only reaction to my situation. Oh my beloved village. Oh Konoha, I will not even get to see you before I died. With those thoughts racing through me I had forgotten about the demon. It’s hot breath stung the back of my neck and its saliva fell next to me. I did what I could. I threw myself off the cliff. This death was at least quick and honorable. Through my downfall I finally turned around to see that which hunted me. A glimpse granted me the sight of a blue surge of fire. It revolved around itself like twin tornadoes. Two waves. With that sight, I closed my eyes. The creature had failed in hunting me. I smiled at the sound of its howling wails.
