Entirety:

The functions of Gedō: Rinne Tensei no Jutsu have been severely misunderstood. Warily, Rinne Tensei is an immensely intensified version of the Naraka Path’s: King of Hell technique—which utilizes the Outer or Seventh Path as a medium to re-infuse new life force energy to the bodies of those who have died for an indefinite amount of time; regardless of how they were killed.[ ]

There is no time limit for the ability; the only limit is the chakra capacity user. Recall the limit mentioned was how long Nagato had left before he would die, it concurs with Konan's remark about how Nagato would die if he used Rinne Tensei with his chakra levels at the time.[ ][ ]

As long as the person is living, the technique literally has no restrictions or limitations.

It’s a putative inclination; a fabrication of the readers.

Other:

We can conclude from the above:

  • It revives persons not killed by Nagato directly, for he revived Kakashi who died from chakra exhausted and was supposed to revive Madara.
  • The only limit is the user's chakra capacities.
  • Gedō: Rinne Tensei has no restrictions, the restrictions lie central in the user's over aptitudes; essentially hinting that unlike Obito, Nagato may have lived through the application of Rinne Tensei due to his heritage.

So what you're implying is, that with enough chakra, someone could resurrect the sage of the 6 paths.

The propensities of Rinne Tensei require a soul to be brought back from the 'Pure World,' Edo Tensei takes that soul and uses it for the body of the sacrifice. Principally entailing that the Edo cannot summon itself into existence because it already exist.

Technical yes, but no one has even remotely enough to revive someone who has been presumably dead for centuries.

Trying to hard to sound intellectual but good point.

I never understood why someone says this. Exactly how is this intellectual, for I'm missing quite a few elements here.

This is another limitation to it. Edos cant use it. I think the reason that is is because the jutsu also requires the lifeforce or soul of the one who needs to be revived (in this case madara) but thats impossible as his soul is already in a body

Living body. Otherwise Madara would have just summoned Nagato via Rinne Tensei release himself from Edo Tensei, and be revived by the newly revived Nagato.

I disagree with one thing:

"The technique literally has no restrictions or limitations. "

If this was so, Madara would've revived himself already. Also Based on the properties of R-Tensei, if the above statement is true and he did use R-Tensei on himself either:

1) His current body would be disintegrated and replaced with the original.
2) His soul would be removed from the Dead ninja's body and returned to the original.

The implication from the Manga is that it's restricted from use to "the dead"/ "Edo's". Also, it's confusing as to why Obito's life would have to be sacrificed to revived Madara based on Konona's implication that "Sufficient chakra" would've kept nagato alive even after he used the technique. Personally, i think her judgement was erroneous and Nagato would've still died even if his chakra was replenished on using the technique, else obito would be wrong which is near impossible.

Plot forbids it. Otherwise Madara would have just summoned Nagato via Rinne Tensei release himself from Edo Tensei, and be revived by the newly revived Nagato.

Or as i said you may need a lifeforce and not a deceased carcass occupied with a soul
