Zeref's power is seeming more and more mundane though. He couldn't and can't defeat acnologia for example. And he seems incapable of doing what he needs to do alone, requiring eileen for example to take Fairy Heart from Mavis.
What I wish we see, though I doubt Hiro will do it, would be like the most ridiculous and over the top in magnitude fights between FT members and the 12 + Zeref. I want gildarts to come and bust shit up. I want the Gods of Ishgar to rise up once more and help. I want mavis to fight against Zeref and hold her own...for awhile.
I want more!

Glad I'm not the only one. Our perspectives of what is about to come is I think COMPLETELY different than what Hiro has for us. And I really hope he takes us by surprise, a good one though.
Lets wait and see what Hiro does with this. I don't like the idea of Mavis and Zeref not fighting themselves but rather letting others fight. It makes Mavis seem like a toy for the guild and zeref seem like an immortal weakling.

But with the same token we don't really know if Acnologia could beat zeref. As for the rest, I think it is a good play on Hiro's part not to force Zeref into to much action at the moment. He has an entire army, claiming them to be so strong he shouldn't really have to lift a hand for anything when he has powerhouses like spriggan 12. This just goes to show how powerful he himself may be just by the following he has. I don't really think he should make any sort of play until all characters are introduced to the war, the main one being Glidarts.
Acnologia cannot beat Zeref or Mavis because neither of them is mortal. So by default, in theory, only the ones for whom Zeref and Mavis defied the God Anksheram (Natsu and Makarov's Dad) would be able to effectively kill them. Thats why Zeref made sure to empower Natsu and make sure he could defeat him. And we also saw that Mavis' magic can play on equal grounds with Acnologia's in the Tenrou Island arc. Zeref also met Acnologia and talked to him and it was hinted they fought. The reality that they are both alive after that means neither is capable of defeating the other.
Zeref might simply be bluffing to conceel how his abilities aren't so off beat from the other mages he surrounded himself with. Sure, his curse allows control over death and life and basically kills with some unknown mean. And the fact that he is immortal means he is stronger than the other mages surrouding him. However, I between being omega strong and being immortal goes a big step. I feel neither signifies the other.
