Well he's the king of hell. Apparently he is the opposite of the Spirit King, who is a genuine spirit, so that makes him a genuine demon.Good chapter, not great though. I hope that this part of the arc will reveal more about Lucy's grand role in the story as a whole. This chapter is probably just setting up bigger things in future.
Also, Demon King might be a true demon, not a human convert. He seems to be on a much higher level than the other members and was even able to grant them the ability to regenerate. He must either be an actual demon, or the first to ever been converted.
Anyway, if Gray is not half demon I will kill MashimaWell he's the king of hell. Apparently he is the opposite of the Spirit King, who is a genuine spirit, so that makes him a genuine demon.
Zeref can create demons, which is something different than being the creator of all demons. I mean one of the Seven Kin of Purgatory had a magic to enslave people, which results in fusion when used on a Celestial Spirit. So that pretty much comes down to some kind o variation of 'Take Over'.Well, that would be a good reasoning Cali if we knew that Spirit is the opposite of Demon but we don't even know exactly what demons are in FTverse.
Think about it. Zeref created demons but demons have existed ever since. Not only that but Minerva, a human, was transformed into a demon. This means that demons are simply a form of magic. Mirajane, Elfman and their sister all use Take Over magic which revolves around taking over demons and using their powers. For all we know, demons might simply be constructs of magic, nothing more. Spirits on the other hand don't seem to have been created by anyone and they can simply be summoned from a separate dimension. Their nature is seemingly unrelated.
Tbh, Demons have yet to be explained. Its a too broad and generic thing at this point.
Considering the other Demons of tartars and how they react to Marde Guild, I don't think he's a demon. There is also something that puzzels me. Its said that tartars demons don't use magic but curses which is something different. It was even inferred that they would retain all of their abilities even if they destroyed all the magic in the continent. But END is a demon from a book of Zeref which implies its a magic construct or wtv. So, to "call upon it" one would need to be able to use magic. So that would imply in a sense that the King of Hades is in fact a sorcerer of some kind.
So speaking of which may be Layla Summoned Celestial Spirit King back in centuries ago where the conflict started between two kingsZeref can create demons, which is something different than being the creator of all demons. I mean one of the Seven Kin of Purgatory had a magic to enslave people, which results in fusion when used on a Celestial Spirit. So that pretty much comes down to some kind o variation of 'Take Over'.
The Dragon King's Fest was also supposed to be gathering of demons 4 centuries ago and the Spirit King knows the Dark King, they have met before. It's highly doubtful that many people have ever succeeded in summoning the Spirit King + time travels differently in the Spirit World. So they might have met centuries ago too as some of Zeref's demons have been living for centuries. This might even be connected to the year Lucy's mom died.
Wow!!! Great analysis as usualThat the Spirits have their own separate world can thus be seen as an indication that the same applies to the demons. Tartaros itself was the deepest pitt of hell in Greek mythology, so it can be assumed there is a real hell. END might even be the key to unleashing it as at the moment it's locked unlike the Celestial World. Even though you need regular magic to summon the Spirits, the magic the spirits use themselves could be considered different, making it again some kind of opposition to the demons 'curses'. Loki couldn't survive permanently in the real world and started to disappear after a while.
It's also possible that demons are some kind of 'corrupted' Celestial Spirits. After all in Christian lore the rulers of Hell are fallen angels. In this case one came from another, thus establishing a connection, however they are still considered each other's opposites. Heck, maybe Marde was even family of the Spirit King. If 'Curse' was just another form of regular magic, then it should be affected by Face likewise, but instead it's supposed to be immune.
Silver's character indicates that there is a decent possibility that all of Nine Demon Gates in fact were originally humans and even if that isn't the case, that they were created from the Book of Zeref. Marde on the other hand seems to be 'genuine'. What if Zeref's books are in fact an alternative version of Celestial Spirit Summoning? These past two chapters say that you can only summon the Spirit King with a special kind of summoning and that normally Lucy can't summon Aquarius anymore ever because her key is broken. Maybe Zeref's books are some kind the equivalent of the spirit keys meant to 'summon' demons in some kind of way? Loki has shown that spirits can summon themselves to the real world, but it doesn't seem demons can. I've also been wondering for a long time why they are called the Nine Demon Gates. I mean why gates? Normally groups like this have very straightforward names like 'Seven Kin of Purgatory' or 'Element Four', but why Gates? Unless that's a reference to their goal of opening the Gates of hell, for which they need END as currently hell is locked.
Caliburn being a prophet as awaysZeref can create demons, which is something different than being the creator of all demons. The gates of hell thing puzzled me. But the problem here is: does hell exist in FTverse? and if so, does it have gates? This said, is MG the king of hell? if so, isn't he a bit weak around the edges for a supernatural power that oversees the dead? or is hell in ftverse unrelated with the dead?Zeref can create demons, which is something different than being the creator of all demons. The Celestial World is a separate dimension/world or whatever you want to call it. It's not a place where you will go after you die and neither was I implying about hell being the afterlife where the condemned go after they died. I was talking about it the same way as the Celestial World: a separate world/dimension. In Hiro's previous work, Rave Master, there was also such a realm of demons. All the way back at the beginning of the series Lucy said also that it's impossible for humans to live in the Celestial World, when they were there they were given special cloths or something. So these are worlds in their own right. The gates of hell thing puzzled me. But the problem here is: does hell exist in FTverse? and if so, does it have gates? This said, is MG the king of hell? if so, isn't he a bit weak around the edges for a supernatural power that oversees the dead? or is hell in ftverse unrelated with the dead?
What I mean is: can't Hell refer to a more "free form" interpretation of the meaning rather than a literally reference to Hell itself as in Dante's Hell dispiction?
The Spirit World itself is weird and was never explained so I guess its not a surprise that Hell can also be somewhat loose in meaning and interpretation.
Now, considering them opposed as in "rival" factions, then Lucy is the antagonist of Zeref. Lucy = most powerful celestial mage, Zere = most powerful demon creator. They both in a sense do the same: lucy summons spirits, zeref makes demons. Spirits and demons oppose eachother. This would be quite an interesting line of thought though. I mean, we always considered FT to revolve aorund Natsu right? Head dragon slayer, protagonist, etc etc. Yet, this might not be true. The manga is not called Natsu but FT. And the first person to discuss, mention and talk about FT was Lucy. She was also the first mage we saw in the series and the first character seen. In Bleach, OP, Naruto and many others, the first Character seen was the one which the manga revolved around. Luffy will the be pirate king and is the inheritor of the will of D, son of Dragon, grandson of Garp, etc etc. Ichigo is the one shinigami who can defend sereitei as he the one who is all of those things (shinigami, hollow, quincy, human, fullbringer, etc). Naruto is the central chracter, the one who inherited the will of one of the sons of the six paths, bla bla bla. So, looking back, we can consider that Lucy is in fact the central mage and character of the series, not Natsu. This in terms of plot. We also have her mother, who was like a copy of her, who died the day the dragons disappeared. Which we can also consider weird, since she knew it was going to happen and distributed her keys to friends and family. So wtv happened, she knew it would happen by either predicting it or having caused it.
Its intriguing to me how deep this manga is despite seeming so shallow at first. So many loose ends here and there.
