The powering up itself is not the problem, we know the hero has to win but come on. When Deux Ex Machina is involved, we get some weird explanation about the power up (Izanami) but in FT's case, there is no explanation. "I love my nakama so I'm suddenly stronger than the guy that was mopping the floor with my face" ? I'm all for friendship but sometimes, it's just plain silly. They disappoint me to no end

Other than that, FT is a good manga, the art is good, it's original and funny. And Natsu is boss when he gets angry.

YAh i guess Mashima plays too much on camaraderie as a reason for power ups.

Fairy Tail isn't part of Weekly Shounen Jump, hell, it's not even a part of jump so it can never be an official 'Big Three'.
Aside from that, people seem to use 'good' and 'entertaining' interchangeably, generally things that are good are entertaining, although sometimes only to a specific audience, but something entertaining isn't always good. Imo FT can be entertaining, but the only thing good about it is that it can entertain.
Think of FMA, then think of Fairy Tail, then think of FMA again, get it?
