You're kidding right? Animal Path is second only to Deva. Preta Path isn't strong offensively but is really OP on the defensive. Human Path? One touch and it's over.

animal path is the weakest path not even close to deva summons in naruto get rekt unless their bijuu or woodgod. preta path isn't strong and cant absorb too much of his senjutsu. human path doesn't have much combat prowess.

Itachi wanted to test sasuke to see if he was strong enough it wasn't half power
Jiraiya can distract Itachi with his summons and his arsenal of toad jutsus fire jutsu earth and maybe more
Jiraiyas toads can go underground and he has earth jutsus to attack from the ground
Amaretsu is only effective if it hits Itachi doesn't have blaze release like sasuke and he hurts himself and it drains him making jiraiyas job easier
