Hey guys I just started watching One Piece, and I was wondering should I watch dubed or subed version?

I always watch anime on original japanese with subs, but this one isn't bad as dubed version I think?

What do you think, which is better?

It's better than the 4Kids dub, but I still dislike it.
It's up to personal preference I guess.

Watch the Sub, the dub voices just dont fit the characters, the english VAs seem to be doing this for the children and too many of them sound like Gohan

well im used to the sub so I prefer that, the dub isn't bad but it isn't far either so you might as well go with the sub.

So it's up to you, i'll continue on dub

I don't mind either... I watched the dubbed version until FUNimation ran out of episodes, then I picked up the sub. Following that, I picked up the manga.

A few notes inb4 'voices don't match in the dub'/hipster weaboo whining...

Toei asked FUNi to send the top 5 auditions of each Straw Hat (and some major villains... Eneru being one). Then, the executives over there AND Oda himself chose the one they thought sounds appropriate.

As for the names ('WHY ENERU AND NOT ENEL??'), FUNimation (and Viz) has a master list of the names that was sent to them by Toei. Unless they have a very solid argument for changing the name, they've to stick to the list.

I don't know about other anime but FUNi works its ass off to dub the anime as accurately as possible. Yes, minor mistakes are possible but they're getting better at it. As for acting, I won't say that they are better than the Japanese actors but they're very good. You can even compare the improvement if you watch early One Piece episodes and then the Water 7 stuff.

So please, at least try to evaluate rationally before jumping at the conclusion that the dub is always supposed to be horrible.

PS: 4KIDS... Now THAT was a horrible dub :p

Edit: Some of the things are easier to understand in the dub. For example, Kaku's dialect. Despite being young, he speaks like an old man. It was just easier to grasp in the English dub.
Obahan time is another good example of how a show's dub should be adapted for the English speaking audience.

One kind of dub edited everything. Blood turned to plain water. Cigarretes turned to lollipops. I mean wtf?

That was 4Kids, not FUNimation. And it is the perfect example why the dubbing companies should do proper research before signing a contract.
What happened was... FUNimation, 4Kids and some other companies presented their offers. FUNi was so sure that they'll get it, they even bought some of the URLs but for some reason, Toei went with 4Kids (sigh...). One of the 4Kids' staff members confirmed that they were basically stuck with the dub (he appeared in one of the ANN podcast episodes) and they had to do everything to make it work until the license expires. Which did, almost after 3 years (-___-)

It wasn't just Sanji's lollipop, his voice, Usopp's voice... Ugh, those were really bad days for OP's western audience.
