With this being said I would like to talk to you and show you these manga pages.

Elder Toad telling Naruto he would fight someone with "Great Power in his eyes"
Those three links above should be more than enough proof that as time changed names changed for a lot of things. Also it is my belief that the Uchiha translated the eyes into Sharingan, MS, EMS
With this being said I believe The Elder son being a direct descendant from the Rinnegan/Juubi was actually born with an EMS that resembled the sage's eyes due to the strong blood line influence from the sage/Juubi.
Now before you begin to try and bash me remember these things.
1) EMS eyes are required to read the tablet all the way up until the Rinnegan (The point at which the elder son could manipulate). Meaning the EMS is the final ocular step before Rinnegan.
2) MS/EMS all look entirely different from one another. With this being said the influence from the juubi/Sage's eyes could heavily influence the elder son's eyes since he was born with EMS level eyes
3) The Elder son's eyes have no name and only referred to as eyes of power
Why I made this thread:
Basically I am going to explain why the Elder son manipulated the tablet in levels of sharingan, MS, then EMS:
Ok first off if we follow the chain of de-evolution we could say this in terms of the eyes.
Sage(Rinnegan) > Elder son (EMS) > Elder son's Son (MS) > (Elder son's Grandson (Sharingan)
However! The eyes may not have been called EMS,MS, or Sharingan but could have actually been translated by Uchiha to mean EMS, MS, and Sharingan.
Now that this is stated i'd imagine the tablet was changed my the Elder son to keep his ideology of Power and Might = peace. To do this the Elder son left instructions which in terms were changed as the eyes got weaker through the times to guarantee someone would return as powerful as him or possibly even achieving the eyes of his father to make sure his ideology is fullfilled.
[Perfect Example]
Madara Uchiha entire history/plot in the series is the perfect example of the Elder son's ideology all the way up to the point we are at in the series now.
