This is pretty much going to be a series of collective chapters which will be compiled when they are all finished, into a full story. A thing I thought would be both fun and a challenge to myself, is to write each chapter inside of an Eight minute time frame. To me, working within a constricted time frame usually helps me, so I figure why not try and write something? I'm not a good writer so any constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated.

A flash of blue streaked across the rain soaked sky, and the quiet pitter patter of rain danced on the slated roof above me. My heavy eyes scanned the hotel balconies from left to right but there wasn't even a shadow they could chase. It seemed like another day wasted. Sitting on my cold tiled floor as I watched the world blur around me. Slumping back down out of sight I raised my hand and scratched my scrunched brow, blinking my worn out eyes to try and rid myself of the remnants of sleep still clinging to me. I couldn't tell anyone what time, day, or month it was. I'd been in this room for almost a year; waiting for something that never came. I had a good mind to leave this job to someone else - in fact it wasn't sounding like a bad idea until I remembered how my boss would react once she found out. I smiled to myself. It's silly isn't it? That in a world where we are supposedly the freest beings of all, we are still bound by the simplest of social conventions - like any other animal. However most of us don't have the bravery to step out of line and do something truly worth doing.

I rolled my head back and and opened my mouth to allow a sharp exhale. I slid my hand down my smooth suit jacket, and into the pocket at the bottom of it. Reaching for my pack of cigarettes, whilst my other hand wrapped itself around the lighter and too lifted it to my mouth. Slipping the cigarette between my lips I raised the lighter and flicked the cog. A sound I knew all too well, the almost delicious and surprisingly comforting click of the ignition.

This is all I could do in eight minutes. Apologies if you expected more, but then again this is why I'm trying to improve how fast I can write. Thanks for reading.
