Now think about what you just said. How would someone know they are using a genjutsu on themselves... Something like that wouldn't be visual to him. Also Itachi obviously knew that Sasuke had the curse mark and Oro powers to strengthen his sharigan. This is what Itachi planned for in that fight. He had to make the fight seem real so he stalled the battle out.

itachi's eyes were already dimming, and losing power. And sasuke was bested 2/3 times in the genjutsu fight if u count him breaking tsyukiomi but i think itachi let him get out of it, u really think if itachi wanted to kill him with tsukyiomi he would of got out of it. Itachi''s mission was to get sasuke MS techs, and to draw out oro so he can seal him and make sasuke not reliant on oro but uchiha powers not to kill, so u can say everything he did was like going into a gun fight with the safety on.
