I don't see why people say dub is terrible it's pretty much the same thing as sub only a small difference in the dialogue and voice sounds but I don't care about that stuff and I prefer dub because I don't have to pay absolute attention to it unlike in the sub like in the dub I can be doing something else and look away for a few seconds and then just look back at it but in subs if I don't pay absolute attention to it i'll miss a bunch of the dialogue and maybe not know what's going on

Nice sig.

OT: I prefer dub as well (as long as it's not '4kids' dub).

I like the dub. Certain voice actors like Sakura's and Naruto's are meh, while others like Pain's and Itachi's are just as good as the originals.

It's because the Japanese language is so passionate and real, it make the english speaking voice actors seem fake and corny if you ask me.

I also like Dub for the exact reasons you said. For some animes, I feel watching it dubbed is necessary. Animes like Yu Yu Hakusho, Darker Than Black, and Black Cat are all very good dubbed. The only pro Subs has over Dubs is that you can watch Subs during school because of the subtitles. Lol

I prefer the dub as well, most characters in the original Japanese dub voice sounds unfitting to their character... And I'd rather not spend more of my time reading the subtitles than to pay attention to the entire environment of the story. As long as 4Kids isn't dubbing then I'm happy.

DUBBING FTW! I like dub too. But I don't mind subs though. But it depends on who dubbed it, like you guys don't like the 4kids dub (Whatever that is) and I don't like the Ocean dub for Dragon Ball Z! I like the FUNimation dub for it :) Sometimes I like the sub more than the dub, depending on the voice actor. Like some of the dub voices just don't fit with the person... Like the Raikage has a

I wouldn't say dubs are bad but typically I do feel that the subs tend to be superior. Japanese voices (coming from the country of origin after all) tend to feel much more authentic and passionate than the English voices and unless the setting is made so that a dub would be more fitting (or if, say, in Yu Yu Hakusho's case, it's just a damn good dub) I'm definitely more inclined to the subs. After all, a bunch of people in a Japanese setting that have very American voices just seems awkward, especially if those voices don't feel spot-on qualitywise in comparison to the original. I've heard a bit of the Clannad dub and even though I'm sure it will grow on me once I actually start watching it through, I can't help but feel that it pales in comparison to the essence captured by the seiyuu.

Dubs aren't bad though. Gurren Lagann's dub (while not quite as good as the sub imo) was easily sufficient. Baccano! had a fantastic dub, though I never heard the sub voices to compare. And of course Yu Yu Hakusho and Dragon Ball Z both do very well with their dubs as far as I can tell though.

Yes, some dub is good. The ones mentioned above are good examples. Some are just horrible like the 4kids dub. I mean they can ruin an entire series and make people think it is a horrible anime. I'll give 3 examples.

This video gives a comparison to both dub versions. Instead of killing her, I'll just throw her in a nice dungeon. That is more kid friendly, and no one will wonder why they didn't rescue her after Arlong was beaten. It's ok 4kids, not like people actually wanted a deep back story for Nami anyways.

Luffy's voice just irritates the hell out of me dub. Not to mention Sanji's oral fixation is smoking, not lollipops....

This one is probably the best though. If you haven't watched One Piece fully you probably won't understand it. Basically they cut out 2 episodes, and they turned a whale into an iceberg. Little did they know Oda uses things like what they cut out later in the series and ties it to a character. In this case the Whale was a friend of Brook.

Yes they are all One Piece. This is the main reason One Piece is not popular in the U.S. 4kids ruined One Pieces reputation. Even the Funimation dub is pretty bad too compared to the sub. Overall, dub is more suited for kids imo. If you are like me, reading the sub and paying attention to the background is no problem.

Yeah the 4Kids version of One Piece is just awful. It really butchers everything that made One Piece awesome and it's a shame that many people out there assume that 4Kids One Piece represents the real OP when it's anything but. 4Kids is probably the only reason OP isn't just as popular as Naruto and Bleach are in America, otherwise it might have been nearly as big a hit as in Japan.

I generally prefer subs because I like the way Japanese voices sound. Also the American female voices can be annoying at times.
However, anime like Death Note and FMA:Brotherhood were pretty good dub :y

Didn't Gurren Lagann's dub try to stay pure to the japanese, saying Simon's name as it is in the original? Just sounds dumb to call him like Shimon in english... :/

Although some dubs are really good. I find Funimation have some good dubs in a few of their things, but a lot of the time it depends on the setting. I personally enjoyed Soul Eater's dub, and I've heard Cowboy Bebop's is exceptionally amazing although I haven't seen it so I only say from what I've heard from other people.

I understand why people hate 4kids dub, but can you please judge it purely for their english voices, not all the edits they've made? Sanji's oral fixation, lack of cleavage etc. are done because it's for kids, nothing else. They take these things out to portray it to a younger audience, that's it. Stop hating on the dub for things they're editing which aren't the voices.

I know it's not technically anime, but I really like the dubs for the Persona games. Akihiko~~~~

I only like Latin American Spanish dubs. Both English and Spanish from Spain dubs suck

They didn't call him Shimon, well if you mean pronounced like "See-mohn" then yeah but I think pronouncing it Simon in the western sense just doesn't fit. It's just.....weird. If it was meant to be pronounced that way they would've named him Saimon or something like that but even Japanese wise that's just funky.

Yeah Funimation dubs tend to be good for the most part, I know Fullmetal Alchemist has a good dub from what I have heard but I only watched through it in sub.

Well the edits definitely are a big part of why people hate the 4Kids version of it. I mean for starters, One Piece was never, ever meant to be a show dumbed down THAT much. At least with Pokemon and Yugioh it wasn't as big a deal because those were always meant for a much younger audience, but with One Piece these edits not only made OP into a mindless 5-year olds' show, but as a previous poster mentioned, it even screwed with the plot. Turning Laboon into an iceberg not only destroys a very emotional part of the story, but later causes plot holes. I believe 4Kids also skipped the arc with the giants on the island, which would cause BIG plot holes for Water 7 and also leaves unexplained some of the fights involving pairs such as Mr. 5/Miss Valentine and Mr. 3/Miss Golden week.

Also, the voices just weren't that good. I only read the manga so I haven't really heard the Japanese voices all that much, but aside from probably Zoro, a good portion of the 4Kids' voices for the Straw Hats just bother me. Particularly Luffy and Sanji but just in general it sounds very poor and the clip that 7th Biggest OP Fan showed comparing the Bellemere scene from 4Kids and Funimation dubs is proof of that. Not only did the 4Kids version cut out a lot of content, but it utterly DESTROYED the emotional impact of that scene. The Funimation dub gave me the chills reminding me of the significance of that scene and how it would shape Nami's character up to that point in the story, but the 4Kids dub made it so that I couldn't take anything seriously because of how utterly fake the voices sounded.

And I've never played Persona but I do find that video game dubs seem to work, at least for me. Though part of it could be that I never get a chance to hear the Japanese voices and thus have nothing to compare them to.
