Nice thread. Just an interesting little tid-bit the rinnegan has shown another perception feat when pain talked to tsunade atop hokage mansion. He commented whether try we're accumulating chakra in their feet to counter his technique. Obviously one could conclude that seeing chakra is something quite easy for a rinnegan user.

This also opens up the potential for rinnegan being immune to visual genjutsu since the sharingan uses a similar method to view and counter chakra disrupted genjutsu.

What i think your trying to say is that the Rinnegan composes of the abilities possessed by the Sharingan and Byakugan(claimed to be related) as it is the original supreme doujutsu? Nope. Why? here's why:

The Elder sons doujutsu differes from the rinnegan due to some external interference, mostlikely the juubi's.

rule is:
Rinnegan - Yang = EMS<- MS<- S

but:
Jinchuriki Sage's rinnegan (eyes) - Yang (body) = Elder sons doujutsu

It is only after he appeared with this doujutsu, a triat not possessed by his father, the sage, that the sharingan (and possibly the byakugan) sprung forth with its strange abilities (totsuka, Susano'o, Tsukuyomi, Sasuke's bow and arrow, amaterasu, ect) which differ greatly from the rinnegan's abilities and it is highly likely that these techniques are associated with the Juubi's Doujutsu, the Sharingan as it is only though the sharingan itself that these techniques can be awakened.

What I'm saying is that The Rinnegan shows all the abilities that the Sharingan, and Byakugan show. Taijutus, Ninjutsu, Perceptive ability, Genjutsu etc. Remember I said 3 tomeo not MS Sharingan.

Also Yata mirror/Totsuka Blade aren't Susano'o based weapons they're simply linked to Itachi's because he found them.

My bad, it's a partial analysis then.

Yata and Totsuka are Spiritual weapons which came along with his susano'o, most likely crafted by the Juubi if we go by the Japanese mythology.
