Background
When Yugi's mother was pregnant with him, Orochimaru captured her and performed experiments on her. His subordinate, Sakon, was born with a condition that allowed his brother and him to be fused, and so Orochimaru attempted to duplicate this condition. He infused the unborn infant with DNA of a long-dead ninja known as the "Pharaoh", from an unknown land. When Yugi's father discovered why his wife was missing, he confronted Orochimaru, and attempted to fight him, only to be struck down, and chopped to pieces by Orochimaru's Kusanagi. After seeing her husband killed by her kidnapper, Yugi's mother was so overwhelmed with emotion, she fell into a state of depression and gave up all hope to escape Orochimaru.
She later gave birth do a healthy boy, with no visible defect. Upon further inspection from a chakra sensor under Orochimaru's command, it was discovered that the Pharaoh lived deep within Yugi, unable to surface for lack of power. Orochimaru then decided to let the woman and child go, for they had no further use to him. Before letting her go, however, Orochimaru whipped the woman with his serpent-like tongue because she was a failed experiment. Before she left, however, she was gifted with a small box of gold objects. She was told to give them to her son when she believed he was old enough. Orochimaru then sent the two on their way with an evil grin on his face.

Orochimaru then sent the two on their way with an evil grin on his face.
Ten years after Orochimaru's experiments on his mother, Yugi Moto celebrated his tenth birthday. The overwhelming chakra that just seemed to get stronger from the box of objects that Orochimaru gave her was too much, and so Yugi's mother gave it to him as a birthday gift. Finally rid of the foul chakra that had been haunting her for ten years, Yugi's mother then went to lie down, while Yugi went to his room to try and find out what exactly was in the box. After examining the box of items for quite some time, Yugi finally decided that inside the box was a puzzle.
Now, throughout Yugi's life, he had been great at games, puzzles, and mind teasers, so he was excited about this. He quickly began to put it together, and learned that the puzzle wasn't a normal, flat puzzle, but a 3-D puzzle. But this didn't slow him down one bit, and Yugi came down to a pyramid-shaped puzzle, with a hole in the center, and the last piece in his hand. Yugi was about to complete the puzzle, when the immense chakra surged through his body, and he fell to the floor, along with the puzzle. While on the ground, he reached out his hand, and pushed the last piece of the puzzle into the hole. Instantly, Orochimaru's chakra was exerted from the puzzle, and the chakra was absorbed by the Pharaoh, giving him enough power to surface.
Yugi and the Pharaoh then stood face-to-face. They looked at each other, and then the Pharaoh thanked Yugi for releasing him. Yugi and the Pharaoh then spoke for a while, and Yugi learned his real name; Atem. A distant relative of Atem, Yugi was the perfect host for his body, and whether or not Orochimaru knew this is unknown.
After speaking for a while, Atem nearly fainted from standing after being dormant for so long, and grabbed Yugi's shoulder. The unique ability that the two shared allowed Atem to fuse his cells with Yugi's and the two fused together. With Atem's head sticking out of the back of Yugi's neck, he shivered, and went to tell his mom, who freaked out about what had happened.

With Atem's head sticking out of the back of Yugi's neck, he shivered, and went to tell his mom, who freaked out about what had happened.
After realizing that he was the host of an ancient ninja, Yugi began wearing a hooded cloak to try and hide his other half. Atem pushed him to become a strong ninja, and so Yugi sought out a sensei who would not judge him for his mutation. Eventually, he came across Tenzo, who offered to teach him a couple elements. Immediately, Atem spoke up from behind the hood and asked if Tenzo had room for two students. Tenzo did not judge, or even seem fazed by Yugi's mutation, and taught the two as if they were two separate students.
While learning the earth element, Atem noticed that Yugi was far surpassing him in the element, and was expecting Tenzo to point it out any second. The longer Atem waited, the more distracted he was, until he finally asked Tenzo why he wasn't comparing him to Yugi.
"To compare you two would be like comparing apples and oranges," came Tenzo's reply. "Even though you are very similar, you are not the same. There's no need to compare you." Even though this comforted Atem, he did not like the answer, and so he stayed late with Tenzo to train.
One day, while Atem was training late, Yugi decided to wander around the village, where he ran into a boy slightly older than him named Papaya who challenged him to a spar to test his strength. Not wanting to waste an opportunity to test what he had learned, Yugi agreed to fight Papaya without Atem. When the fight was over, and Papaya had won, Yugi returned to his sensei Tenzo and told him the bad news, which Tenzo took much better than Yugi did.
"You were in your first fight. That's great!" he had said. "Even though you lost, you gave it your all, eh?" Yugi blinked and agreed. "That's great! Now if you continue with your training, you can take him next time!" Yugi and Atem continued with their training until one fateful day...

One day, a young boy came to the village. He didn't wear a headband, and acted as if his village was an ally with the leaf. Yugi was thirteen by this point, and this boy didn't look much older than him. When he and Atem asked their sensei about him, he answered them with, "Some ninja leave their village to follow their dream; to learn from every village they can and become stronger. And some ninja don't like the way their village is working, and so they leave their village anyways. This boy is one of those ninja." After their training session, Yugi and Atem tracked down the boy.
Yugi followed the boy closely, while Atem followed in the background. The boy obviously knew that he was being followed, and sped up, Yugi gestured to Atem, and the both of them sped up. They followed the boy to the edge of the village, where he made a mad dash into the forest, only to run into Atem's arm, clotheslining himself.
"What do you want?" the boy asked. "I left my village, what else is there? I'm not in the bingo book, am I!?"
Yugi and Atem then explained their ability, and simply asked the boy his name.
"My name? I'm Migualon J.J. Now, if you'll excuse me-"
"Why'd you leave your village?" Atem asked. And then Migualon went into a deep description of how he didn't like how his village system worked, and so he left. After Yugi and Atem agreed that there were no more questions, the allowed Migualon J.J. to leave, and returned to the village fused. The other villagers spoke behind their backs (which is hard when there's always someone watching it) about their odd mutation, and both Yugi and Atem thought about what Migualon had said. Then they made their decision.
They spoke with Tenzo-sensei, and told him that they were going to leave the village. While he was disappointed with them, Tenzo obliged, and taught the two the last of their lightning and earth jutsu. After that day, Yugi said good-bye to his mother (without Atem), and the two of them made to leave the village.
As they neared the gate, they were stopped by a girl named Sindy. She tried to convince Yugi to stay in the village, unaware of Atem hiding under his hood. As Sindy's reasons for the two of them to stay became less and less appealing to the emotionally cut-off Atem, he caused his arm to erupt out of Yugi's shoulder and pushed her aside. When Yugi would not move, Atem caused his own legs to sprout from Yugi's knees and walked for him.

When Yugi would not move, Atem caused his own legs to sprout from Yugi's knees and walked for him.
After Atem and Yugi left the village, they both quickly realized that they still had a lot to learn, and so Yugi remembered something that his mother had told him; that a man named Orochimaru was the one who had "blessed" him with Atem, and Atem with life. So they made the decision to search for Orochimaru to see if this man could bless them with the completion of their training. So after a few weeks of searching, the "twins" found Orochimaru's layer in the Rice Country. Yugi and Atem then introduced themselves to Orochimaru, and Oro was delighted to find out that his master plan had come to fruition, and that his experiments had even come to him. He took the two boys to a small village in the Rice Country, and put them under the supervision of a ninja whom he held in high regard. After meeting with Yard, Yugi and Atem found a way to make friends with him, and the three of them decided to work together in order to survive serving under Orochimaru. During this time, Yard taught both Yugi and Atem how to summon his Condors, and Atem showed to have more of a skill for summoning that Yugi.
After a few years of serving under Orochimaru, Yard informed Yugi and Atem that Oro was dead, and that Sasuke Uchiha had killed him. The three of them then left the Rice Country before some of Orochimaru's more unruly experiments came through their village and tried to kill them. After the three of them left, they decided to go their separate ways, but to stay in touch.
Soon after leaving Yard, Yugi and Atem ran into a man who only went by the name Power of Darkness. After Yugi, who was a genius of puzzles and games, guessed his true name quickly, and so Akisha offered to teach them fire style to keep it quiet, because Power of Darkness was more frightening. After learning the fire style, the "twins" and Akisha went their own ways.

After leaving Akisha-sempai, Yugi and Atem wandered aimlessly through the lands until they came across a small village in the Land of Iron, where they were attacked. The two men separated almost instantly and fought off the samurai quickly. When more samurai came, the two were exhausted, but put on a brave face and prepared to fight again. They were shocked to find that the samurai were coming in the name of the Land of Iron's general. Yugi and Atem obliged and followed them to the general.
The general acknowledged their abilities, and admired their ability to split apart and fuse together. He asked for more information about what they could do, and Atem (who was separated from Yugi) told Yugi to stay quiet.
"We would love to tell you," Atem said. "But we request that you teach us something in return." After discussing that samurai could do very little for ninja, they came to the agreement that if the samurai taught them weaponry, Yugi and Atem would answer any questions about their abilities. So, after a year of training, Yugi and Atem were seventeen, and had mastered weaponry. This style of fighting came more naturally to Atem, but Yugi didn't care, stating that using these types of weapons wasn't very fun, and that he just wanted to run around and enjoy life. After finishing their training, Yugi and Atem disappointed the samurai with their unsatisfactory knowledge of their abilities, and were chased out of the Land of Iron.
While in exile of the Land of Iron, Yugi and Atem met the boy they had sparred with long ago, Papaya, who had changed his name to Pineapple by this time. They had another battle to test their abilities, but the battle became more of a fun thing, and all of the seriousness was taken out of it, causing Atem to call the fight to a halt. As they fought, Pineapple taught Yugi and Atem wind style, which worked better for both of them, learning, and then using the jutsu they just leant in battle immediately to see how it would be used. After finishing their training long after the battle was called off, the three went their separate ways, and Yugi and Atem eventually found Migualon J.J. again, who preferred to be called either Mig J.J. Quicksilver, or just Mig. The three of them then continued on their journey, meeting with old friends along the way, and became stronger together as great friends...

As the two (or three) ninja made their way through the lands, they met another man who was on the run. He said that someone was after him, and asked for refuge. Mig, Yugi, and Atem decided to help the man, and hid him in a cave. As the man was too paranoid to leave the cave, the three ninja were forced to search for things for this man to eat. As none of the four were sensors, no one knew where the man who was hunting the refugee was. One day, as Yugi was out looking for food, he met another man. The new man asked if Yugi knew where a strange-looking man with torn clothing was hiding. After recognizing the refugee's description, Yugi realized that this man was the hunter.
"What do you want with this man?" Yugi asked.
"I was one of Orochimaru's favorites," the man responded. "He taught me the Living Corpse Reincarnation jutsu, and the man I am after is... special. I need him for my new body." After hearing that this man was one of Orochimaru's favorite people, Yugi recognized him as Scarface. Not wanting any trouble, but not wanting to give away the refugee's position for nothing, Yugi proceeded carefully.
"And if I did know where he was?" Yugi asked.
"You're trying to get something out of me in return for his location, aren't you?" Scarface asked. "Very clever, boy." Then Atem showed up.
"Yugi, do you have-? Who's this?"
"This is Scarface," Yugi said. "He's looking for a strange-looking man."
"I know that you know where he is," Scarface said. "I'll be willing to teach you anything you want to know, in return for his location."
Yugi and Atem spoke with each other for a short while, and then returned with their answer. They led Scarface to the cave where the man was, and checked to make sure Migualon was not there. They then allowed Scarface to take the man's body, and Scarface held up his side of the bargain, beginning to teach the Souma No Ku twins everything they had yet to learn.

After training with Scarface, Yugi, Atem, and Mig all began another journey together. While on their journey, they met many other ninja, weak and strong, and competed along-side each other in competitions of mind, skill, and body. The three became stronger by working together, and made their way through forests, deserts, mountains, and plains until they had traveled together from one reach of their world to the other. At the edge of their world, they traveled along many rivers and open water from island to island, while traversing the dense fog.
Mig was used to the mists of the Water Country, but Yugi and Atem were unfammiliar with hinderence in their vision, and began to trip over small things, and even their own feet. Their friend helped them through the mist until they reached a village on a large island; the Village Hidden in the Mist.
Kirigakure wasn't hostile to the trio, but it definatly wasn't welcoming. The three wandered like strangers through the crowded, mist-filled streets, trying not to be a hinderance to anyone else walking. Mig explained that he had a plan, but refused to tell the twins what it was. They were completely in the dark until they reached a tower looming over the entire village. The Mizukage's mansion.
The three of them were allowed in to see the Mizukage, after having all of their weapons and scrolls taken away, and Mig and Yugi bowed before the leader of the Mist Village, Atem resting within the main body. Mig then proceeded to explain their travels and adventures to the Mizukage, but all he could do was stare blankly at the young man. When he was finished, the Mizukage spoke up.
"And what should I do about it?" he asked. "You are not my problem."
"I was a member of the Mist," Mig replied. "Please allow my friend and I back into the village, Mizukage Alucard-sama." The Mizukage pondered Mig's words a while, and then came to a conclusion.
"Leave," he said. "I will not befriend a traitor, nor the friends of a traitor. You're lucky I don't kill you on the spot!" Alucard spat on the floor in front of Mig's knee, and Mig stood up.
"Thank you for your time," he said with a bow. He pulled Yugi to his feet, and the two of them left the Mizukage's office. As Yugi stood up, his hood slipped a bit and Atems face was visible to the Mizukage for a brief second.
Mig and the twins were planning to leave the Mist village after getting supplies for their travels. They bundled up food and extra, small tools, such as kunai and shuriken, and then made their way out of the village. While they were leaving, Atem noticed dark clouds in the sky to their right. His eyes had begun to adjust to the dense fog quicker than the other two, so they took his word for it. The three of them then traveled to where Atem saw the dark clouds.
When they arrived, there were three ninja surrounding another ninja who had his back to an earthen wall. There were two ninja on the ground by the one's feet.
"Not so tough without your body-guards, are you Alucard?" one of the men said mockingly.
"Let's take him out now!" another said.
The Mizukage wove a series of handseals and summoned water out of the ground around him, which proceeded to rise and form a bubble around him. An instant later, a barrage of ninja weapons hit the surface of the bubble, and slowed down due to the viscosety of Alucard's technique. The weapons crawled out the other side, and fell to the ground harmlessly.
"Let's go," Mig said. "He doesn't want anything to do with us."
"Alright," Yugi began, and then he looked around. "Say, where's Atem?"
"Natural Lightning Style: Thunder Blade!" A dark figure, illuminated only by the bolt of lightning falling onto this skyward-facing katana, stood ontop of the earth wall, and proceeded to run down the bubble of thick water. His katan trailed behind him, and the bubble quickly sparked to life. The man cut all three attackers with his electrified katana, and then jumped backwards, doing a slow-motion backflip in the process, overtop of a flying water/lightning wall spreading straight for the trio of attackers.
Atem landed on the ground, his sword without lightning and in an invisible sheath, hand still on the handle. The katana poofed away, back into his scroll, and Atem stood up to face the Mizukage eye-to-eye.
"Nice to finally meet you," he said.
"Oi!" Yugi shouted, forming a handseal and stomping on the ground. He had noticed that the trio had formed an earth dome to protect themselves, and so Yugi collapsed the dome to completely take care of the Mizukage's assailants.
"Thank you two," the Mizukage said. "But as I said before, I can't be associated with traitors or the friends of a traitor."
"Then let us be your unofficial body-guards," Yugi said, stepping next to Atem, a huge smile on his face. "We can do it!"
"You've seen what we can do," Atem said, gesturing to the pile of stones covering the assailants.
"If that's the case, then you two are now the Mizukage's Bodyguards," Mig said. "I'll be on my way, but I'll be sure to come back." The trio said fairwell, and the twins stayed around Kirigakure in case their services were needed again.

Both Yugi and Atem have trained in the lightning element to a point where they can use lightning jutsu with fewer handseals than most. After extensive training, they each have been able to focus their chakra into a stormy sky in order to manipulate natural lightning, which is much more powerful than chakra-created lightning (as stated by Zetsu).
(Shizen Kaminari no Kyōka) Natural Lightning Enhancment
Rank: C-Forbidden
Type: Supplementary
Range: N/A (depends on jutsu)
Chakra Cost: N/A (+10 to the new rank's chakra cost)
Damage Points: +5 to the new rank's damage (+5 to user for C-A; +10 to user for S-rank)
Description: The user, after forming the handseals for a lightning release ninjutsu, will then add a final handseal (unique from the common 12) and raise their dominant hand to the sky, heavily charging it with negativly charged Raiton chakra. A bolt of natural lightning will come down from the heavens, and upon meeting the same-charge hand of the user, repel into an unfocused lightning mass for a fraction of a second. The jutsu is then completed in the same fraction of the second, and is increased by one rank (changing the rank, chakra cost, and damage points accordingly).
Note: ~The user cannot use another Raiton jutsu on the same or next turn as this jutsu is used due to strain on the user's body.
~This jutsu cannot, under any circumstances, be used on a Forbidden, or can-be-Forbidden-rank (ie. Rank: S-Forbidden) jutsu.
~This jutsu cannot be used on a jutsu that causes lightning to strike (ie. Lightning Fang or Kirin), or a jutsu that requires Raiton chakra to be focused within the user's body (ie. False Darkness Spear and False Darkness).
~Due to how close it is to his body, the Raikage's armor cannot be used with this jutsu.
~This jutsu can only be used by one of a members two bios.
~This jutsu can only be used during stormy conditions, and causes the stormy conditions to dissipate afterwards.
~This jutsu can only be used three times per battle.
~This jutsu can only be used on an S-rank (becoming a Forbidden) jutsu one time per battle, and the user cannot move for one turn afterwards, even collapsing due to the ammont of strain on their body.
~This jutsu cannot be used for at least three turns after it has been used.
~This jutsu can only be taught by Sharingdork.

Yugi was taught Earth Style at a young age, and mastered it to a very high degree. He can now use Doton with fewer handseals and more fluency than others (ie. walls rise slightly faster).
After Atem was released from his brother, he was rarely released from the single body except to train in hand-to-hand combat. Because of this, Atem focused on becoming the best that he could with what he was trained in, and became able to wield nearly any weapon with speed, grace, and power. He also learned how to seal his weapons into small scroll-like cards to be summoned later so he didn't have to carry multiple weapons into battle. He attempted to teach Yugi how to summon these weapons, but was disappointed that Yugi couldn't do it as quickly as he could. He then learned that his skill with summoning exceeded an average ninja, and apologized to Yugi. He knows the exact weight of every weapon he can summon, and can wield it with more fluency and expertise than most.
Yugi also wears an upside-down pyramid called "The Puzzle". Not much is known about The Puzzle, except that when Yugi and Atem separate, they're both wearing it.
