To begin the next technique I begin to mold my spiritual and physical energy once again allowing them to mold together to form raw chakra. Once completed I then use the chakra and heat it up within my lungs creating katon chakra enabling the use for this technique. I quickly reach down to the ninja tools pouch strapped to my leg under my cloak and throw two shuriken out. Once the shuriken are flying I expel my fire chakra to the shurikens, infusing them with fire. Then by my command I unleash the infused fire and ignite the shurikens.

The first and most obvious advantage to this technique is that you give your shuriken an extra punch over the regular shuriken. The fire infused shuriken will become stronger in enemy wind techniques given that the wind technique isn't B-Rank or above. The technique is also chakra efficient give the quantity of shuriken you can produce.

I do have one question regarding the quantity. So if you use one shuriken and infuse it with fire it will be D-Rank? And if you use two each of them will be E-rank? Or is it independent from this jutsu since they are shuriken that are just infused with fire? Just need some clarification there :p

There are a few disadvantages to this technique. Namely that it would only take a low level suiton jutsu to block these easily. As well as other shuriken or kunai to block them in mid air. The katon chakra doesn't actually add any cutting power or speed to any other shuriken and kunai can easily just intercept them.

To use it offensively as you said I could take advantage if my enemy uses a fuuton against me. This way the shuriken will gain strength in the fuuton and create a larger fire. However if I do this I will also still need to defend against the incoming fuuton as the shape and size of the shuriken will not neutralize it. I could also use my own fuuton in conjunction with it to give it strength. The shuriken can also be used as a good distraction to bait the opponent to possibly using one of their three jutsu per turn to put them at a slight disadvantage.

To defend against it as I said above I could throw my own shuriken and kunai. If this isn't possible in some circumstances I could use suiton to block the shuriken and extinguish the infusion of fire.
That's a good question, but I'm afraid it works the same as the previous example, meaning that the power of the fire is divided amongst them.

Yes, the best defense would be to focus on the shuriken and ignore the fire. Why? Because the shuriken are the medium that carries the fire and if you deal with the medium, you've dealt with the fire as well. What that means, anything that has great mass like a wave of water or an earthen slab could stop the shuriken. Wind would work as well but you would need a B rank technique, at least. However, a B rank wind would not only stop the shuriken and blow away the fire, but it could also potentially return the shuriken back to the owner, which is a win-win situation for you.

Alright. Makes sense. Thanks for the clarification :).

Hell yeah.

First I'll perform it. I'll begin by molding my spiritual and physical energies together. Thus creating my raw chakra. With this raw chakra I'll increase the temperature using nature transformation in my lungs causing it to turn to katon chakra. The chakra, being mine, won't cause my any harm while it is in my lungs. Finally I'll inhale and lean back to prepare to release the technique. At this time I'll apply my shape transformation to shape the fire chakra into a fireball. And then to release it I'll just lean forward again and release the small fireball which will travel in the direction that I aim it. Since the technique is a projectile and not a stream it is completely independent of my actions thereafter and allows me to weave the chakra necessary for other follow up jutsu.

The advantages to this technique are pretty simple yet can be used pretty cleverly. First off I'll point out some basic parts of the jutsu. The jutsu reaches up to mid range. This is fairly good as most fights start in mid range which can make this a good jutsu to open with. Secondly the chakra cost is very low making it a jutsu that will come in handy when you want to just spew it out to cause a distraction or something along those lines. The technique requires no hand seals which is always a bonus as it is just a quick spew from the mouth as long as you can weave the chakra properly (in some cases your chakra can be disrupted and prevented from being used). The next part about this is more of how it can be cleverly used in combat. Since it requires no hand seals it can be used fairly quickly and in at a moment's notice. Since the technique can be used as such it makes it good to cause your opponent to be confused or distracted by the technique. In short range you could use this to leave an opening in their offense allowing you to create a more deadly counter attack. A personal thing I like to do is use low ranked techniques first and follow up with much deadlier combinations requiring more chakra. And since the technique is fire it can be used to leave some very bad burns since this technique isn't lethal. If aimed at the eyes it could easily blind someone. Additionally you can hit them in the hands with it leaving their hands burnt making it far more difficult for them to weave the necessary hand seals for techniques that require more concentration. You could also use it to create a small amount of steam to temporarily mask your presence on the field (assuming there is a water source). And of course you can use it in conjunction with a fuuton to increase its size and destructive power. The key power behind this technique I would have to say would be its very sneaky burning power. You could even use it to burn your clothing if someone puts a seal on you, such as an FTG seal, at a low cost of chakra of course.

The disadvantages are also present. As the move has no killing power it can't really be used to finish someone off. This disadvantage can be compensated with it being used as a combination or distraction attack. The fireball is also not large enough to mask your location. Some fire jutsu are large enough that when released (assuming they are a projectile) you can weave your chakra and perform other actions while your opponent is blinded to your location as all they can see in their line of sight is the fire. This is not the case with this technique making it hard to do follow up stealth actions.

To use it in combat as I said a lot above I would use it to distraction my opponent or burn them and blind them. The burns, while not extremely severe would inflict a lot of pain and distract them. I could also use it as an opener and perform some other technique to mask my location or use a follow up with it, such as a fuuton to create a stronger fireball. Additionally I can use it to create steam to temporarily mask my location or use it to burn cloth on me or my opponent if necessary. Burning and destroying FTG seals is a huge way to counteract it :p.

I apologize if I overestimated the fireball at any points. I think I hit on everything I could think of though :).

Well, this was one of the most amazing replies I have ever seen, both from students and sensei. I wouldn't be able to go in such depths myself about such a simple technique. Amazingly done. I'd love to add something to not make myself look like a fool, but there's nothing else I can say. xD

( Katon: Kasumi Enbu no Jutsu ) - Fire Release: Mist Blaze Dance Technique
Rank: D
Type: Offense/Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 10
Damage Points: N/A
Description: After performing the necessary hand seals Snake → Ram → Monkey → Tiger, the user is able to create and blow a flammable gas from their lungs. Once it comes in contact with fire or sparks, the gas ignites into a large fireball.

Your first and one of the rare supplementary fire techniques. Its supplementary ability comes from the gas while not being ignited. As you exhale it it can partially block your opponent's vision. Since it's a gas it's not completely opaque but enough to obscure your opponent's vision, as I said. It's greyish in color and it, honestly, resembles ash in a dusty-gas form.

You must be registered for see images

The offensive use comes obviously from the ability to be ignited and explode, damaging the opponent. To execute the technique you're required to perform a few handeals in order to properly mold your chakra but as a Fire Master or even specialist you can perform it with less or quicker handseals due to the experience you gain when using them as your main element. However, you have to be careful with the technique, even with it being low ranked. Since a spark can set it off this means it can just as well blow up in your face if your opponent knows what you're up to. The technique can be augmented by wind techniques in order to get the dust quicker away from you and near the opponent.

First I'll perform the jutsu by molding spiritual and physical energy together. With the raw chakra created I'll weave the necessary hand seals (Snake → Ram → Monkey → Tiger) to concentrate my chakra in my lungs. Once again I'll heat it up to create katon chakra. However unlike last time I'll use my shape transformation to instead of mold it into a fireball I will use it to change the heated katon chakra into a gas. Then I can exhale it and unleash it as a stream of gas from my mouth.

First I want to list out what I think are the drawbacks of this technique as there can be a lot. First off the technique can be pushed back to you through the use of an opponent's fuuton. So without careful placement you could end up covered in your own gas and just burnt alive yourself. Secondly the technique requires a lot of good strategic placement meaning one needs to be very descriptive so as not to leave any openings for their opponent to take advantage of in the description. For example, if you do use a fuuton in conjunction with it to change its range or direction you should be very descriptive about what it will hit, how far it will go, etc etc. If you don't an opponent can easily evade it or direct it back at you. This isn't really a disadvantage however to a skillful user and can easily be turned into a huge advantage. With proper strategic use the technique can be turned into a deadly weapon despite its low rank.

So now for the advantages. To start off with the technique can be easily manipulated with a follow up fuuton. The technique might state that its range is short-mid but it can easily be extended to long range by using a long range fuuton. This makes the jutsu extremely versatile with its usage meaning even a long range enemy isn't safe from this with correct use. The second advantage is building off the strategic use with a fuuton this technique can be used to change and manipulate its shape while already released. So in the picture you provided it looks like a simple stream. However with a powerful fuuton you can describe the gas being changed into more of a wider range once the fuuton connects with it. The fuuton won't just simply speed it up but depending on how its used it can easily be used to cover a lot more targets than if the technique was used alone. So for example you could take out an opponent's clones with a simple D-Rank technique if you use it with the proper description. Depending on their location you could combine it with a fuuton to manipulate the locations on which it'll hit so as to take out more targets at once. For example, using Wind Bullets to take small amounts of the gas to a certain location on someone's body very quickly allowing you to ignite that certain spot. Be it their eyes, mouth, hands, etc. Another advantage is that this technique can hit multiple targets and only requires a simple spark or flame to ignite it. So if you want to conserve chakra you can use a lightning wave to ignite the gas. Or you could use a small fireball on your target(s).

And finally my favorite part about this technique I'd have to say is the fact it requires a flame or spark to ignite. This means you can choose when to ignite it and how you want to. As I said above you can use a simple fireball or use a wide ranging devastating fire jutsu such as Goka Mekkyaku. Combine this with a fuuton from earlier to spread the gas around and you have two katon jutsu combined with a fuuton jutsu. This would make for a devastating firestorm. And since the fire ignites on the person(s) it is covering it would make it very hard to prevent that damage while also dodging the jutsu you used to ignite it.

It certainly is a very cool jutsu with a lot of potential for both devastation and strategic use. And as you said it is rare to have a katon supplementary jutsu. This makes it all the more useful.

Just one note, the heating of chakra is actually called nature transformation. It has a nicer ring to it so you can use that term instead. Basically it's molding your energies together then using nature and afterwards shape manipulation. That's as simple as it gets to perform a technique.

Excellent, that is a very important piece of information. You can use other techniques as mediums to carry your "main" jutsus to longer range than what the description says. Very good. I believe there is a chart that has some of the combinations for these type of situations as well as how ranks work when using multiple techniques in conjunction. If I find it, I'll edit the post.

Also, a creative use would be expelling the gas and then creating a tornado that you send at the opponent. The rotation of the tornado would consume the gas and force it to spin in its "body" as it travels towards the opponent. Then once it reaches its target you can ignite it and have it engulf in a massive storm of flames. This works particularly well because the tornado would be the medium that carries the gas and once you ignite the gas, the fire would consume the fire, fueling it even further. This way you get multiple uses out of a simple combination of low ranked jutsus. :)

I definitely like the tornado idea. Also my bad on the shape transformation. That was a typo xD. I feel a lot of people forget the potential with techniques such as it is such a low rank technique. I see it as still fire. Sure it isn't an S-rank fire technique but regardless it can still burn. Maybe not incinerate or cause 3rd degree burns. But a burn nonetheless. And for such a low chakra cost.

This is the thread that I was referring to. It's a very useful read if you already didn't, written by the best water user NB has seen so far.

Yeah I read through that a little bit before I started training with you. It taught me a lot. My favorite part was definitely the idea behind the size and shape of techniques and how it can easily sway a battle and take away an advantage with a foolish move. And also the part on extending the range of techniques with other mediums. Like using water whip to extend a short ranged raiton.

Excellent. Then we may proceed.

( Katon no Jutsu ) - Fire Release Technique
Rank: D
Type: Offensive
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra cost: 10
Damage points: 20
Description: The user will release a small but powerful flame of fire at their opponent from either their limbs (through movement) or exhaling it. It can produce fire balls or fire streams or simply aid in taijutsu.

This one is very simple in nature and it's basically a mix because it can be a projectile or fire stream, depending on your needs. If you're in a close combat fight then you need swift movements and shooting small fireballs from your palms can be very helpful to further restrict the opponents movements and leading him into making a movement that will suit you in order to strike him. However, if the fight is more stagnant and you have time to properly execute the technique then you can release it as a small stream of fire. I envision it as being very good for igniting stuff like wires, clothes, explosive tags and the likes.

To begin I'll simply mold my spiritual and physical energies together to create more raw chakra. With nature transformation I'll heat this chakra up in my lungs causing it to become katon chakra. With this I'll expel it from my mouth. However depending on how I use my shape transformation I can choose to make this into a stream or projectile. Additionally I don't even necessarily have to use my lungs and mouth as the location to expel the chakra from. I can fire them from my palms to create an opening in my opponent.

So I'll start with the advantages of the technique. Despite being a low ranked technique it is pretty versatile. It allows you to release the technique from multiple locations on your body (palms and mouth). The palms are more versatile to use as they allow you to really choose the direction the technique will go in. If you release it as a stream or a projectile from your mouth you will only really be able to fire it directly in front of you, unless you move your head in a different direction. The hands however can be easily moved in multiple directions and also will allow you to keep your eyes on your current enemy or anything else you wish to keep your vision on. This could be further exploited with the Rinnegan. The Rinnegan can be used with clones (or the Six Paths of Pain) or other summonings (Animal Path) to have multiple fields of vision that are combined. This combination could allow you to accurately use your hands to fire this technique even while keeping your own eyes on something else. The technique is low ranked and as such is very chakra efficient. And with all other fire jutsu, while it is low ranked, it is still fire. An enemy cannot simply take the hit as it will cause them pain and burns. And of course as you said you can use this easily and very quickly in close quarters combat to force an opening in your opponent's attack allowing you to follow up with something much more fatal. You can't quite control their movements but you can certainly manipulate them and use that to attempt to predict them. Finally the technique can be used to create multiple fireballs.

There are disadvantages to a technique such as this. First off if you do use it to create multiple fireballs it does decrease the damage of each one. Two fireballs will have E-rank strength. However if they both land the damage though they will be combined back into its regular D-rank strength. The technique is easily countered and defended against. And this isn't just by Suiton. There are many jutsu that form shields (earth shields, water shields, etc) that can be quickly used in short range to defend against this to prevent that opening that one may want to be created. However if they use the first jutsu as a shield to defend against the fireballs it will be easy to continue and use a much stronger jutsu in your next turn. The fire is also not particularly large in size so it can't be used to create very much steam or use the size to hide yourself (like some large scale katons can be).

As you said I would use this primarily to ignite wires, clothes and what not. In battle one can use a kunai attached to a wire as a medium for the fire to reach a target. Additionally you can burn clothes. Like I said in my earlier remarks regarding Katon: Komakai Kaki one can burn their clothes if an enemy has placed a seal on it. This is especially helpful with FTG seals as even if you take the clothes off it is still present on the battlefield. So your opponent can still teleport to it and attack you from there. However by burning it you remove it completely and cause their move placing the seal on the clothing to be a complete waste of chakra. In close range I would use this in conjunction with some free form to create an opening in my opponent. I could force them to create a shield of water or earth and follow up in my next move with something far stronger. Since they will still have the water on their body (assuming they used a water shield) I could hit them with a very fast raiton. The water would act as a conductor on them and empower the damage of the raiton.

Yes, lightning is always a good follow up after fire. It's faster and it should catch up with the fire at longer distances. Also, it's important to note that both lightning and fire are energies and don't really have solidity so they pass through each other, which makes fire the perfect mask for lightning techniques.

Very nice point about the solidity. I'll keep that in mind for sure. I feel a raiton with a large scale katon would be excellent as the katon can easily mask a smaller yet fast raiton. An enemy (without dojutsu or sensing) won't be able to see it coming. This. Can be said for a lot of combinations as well.

Indeed. Even earth would be a good follow up after fire. Although not that fast as lightning it would be hidden from view and easily overpower the most likely counter to fire.

One could even combine a fuuton with the earth and fire to increase the earth projectile speed and increase the fire's range. Or use earth in mud form to combine with the fire.

Yes, but tri-elemental combinations tend to stretch too much in the timeframe and most of the time in our RP you rarely get to chain two techniques together. It's just the state of the RP, so it's always better to submit less techniques to keep the anticipation running instead of revealing your whole plan by posting 3 jutsus and then being intercepted.

Ah okay good point. Still yeah 2 elements definitely leave for some anticipation. Quick question. If you use a jutsu in one turn and it is interrupted you don't spend the chakra right? Basic question yeah. So far I've operated under the assumption that you don't. Though I just want to be sure.

That's right, if it doesn't happen then... it doesn't happen. Enough of chatter. If you have further questions, please ask. Otherwise, we're continuing with the techniques.

( Katon: Shōkasou ) - Fire Release: Small Fire Stream
Rank: C
Type: Offensive
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage points: 30
Description: The user will create a small short flame at the opponent. This flame is capable of making the target collapse due to the heat of the technique. This technique requires no handseals.

Your first C rank technique. Description-wise it's the same as some of the previous techniques with the only difference of being slightly stronger and being able to reach mid range. The technique is created from your mouth and it doesn't require handseals. Obviously, you can direct it with head movements so it's useful against moving targets. The main downside is that streams don't allow you to perform other techniques while the stream is active so you can't really combine it. You could ignite stuff easily, though. If you prepare something beforehand you can set it ablaze with this technique. As an example, you could ignite a wind tornado that you sent at your opponent previously.

So to begin with I'll first mold spiritual and physical energy together to create raw chakra. I will heat this raw chakra up in my lungs through the use of nature transformation creating katon chakra. Then I will expel this chakra from my mouth creating a stream of fire capable of reaching up to mid range.

So I'll begin with advantages. Like the D-Rank streams this follows the same idea. It is released as a stream of fire from your mouth and can reach mid range. It is capable of being very fast in usage as it doesn't require hand seals and it can be directed with your head in any direction. The first noticeable trait I saw was the description about causing a target to collapse due to the heat. This immediately makes me think of all the possible combinations one could make with this. Before I list some out I'll list out some very basic and obvious advantages to using this technique. It's larger than a D-Rank stream which makes it deadlier and harder to avoid. As with other fire techniques the technique is still fire and can burn very extremely well making it useful. Since it is a stream one could use it on a water source to make a non chakra filled steam which would allow a dojutsu user to still see in it yet it would blind the enemy due to still being steam. Normally with Hiding in Mist jutsu the dojutsu user is blinded (except Byakugan users) because it is a blanket of chakra...not only because it is mist. The mist is infused with chakra and thus blinds the Sharingan/Rinnegan user.

For disadvantages I'll begin with the fact that it is a stream. So unlike the previous jutsu we learned where one could use it in close range to shoot fireballs to aid with taijutsu this technique can't be used like that. It is a stream technique and as such we can't use techniques simultaneously unless we have a clone on the field capable of doing this. To compensate for the stream disadvantage (other than using a clone) one would want to use a technique before hand to combine this with (such as the tornadoes you mentioned) or another fuuton. The stream won't be large enough to conceal your position behind it or anything like that.

So the coolest part about this jutsu was that it mentioned heat exhaustion. I initially just assumed that all katons did this up close. So first I have a question. Do they all carry this effect when used up close (the higher ranked ones)? But regardless I'll just focus on this one for this instance. So if I use a doton to surround my enemy and box them in I can use this katon in close range. So fire naturally sucks up oxygen to feed it. In close range this will cause heat exhaustion and eventually knock an opponent out if I don't directly burn them. Now it is difficult to pull this off as they can just use a suiton. However if I paralyze them with a raiton or bind them with some other jutsu I can make it extremely difficult for them to form hand seals.
