Defense of the Ancients (DotA) is a multiplayer online battle arena mod for the video game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, based on the "Aeon of Strife" map for StarCraft. The objective of the scenario is for each team to destroy the opponents' Ancients, heavily guarded structures at opposing corners of the map. Players use powerful units known as heroes, and are assisted by allied heroes and AI-controlled fighters. As in role-playing games, players level up their heroes and use gold to buy equipment during the mission
You may or may not be aware of a game known as League of Legends which was basically based off of Dota 1...
Well Valve , Recently bought rights to the name Dota, and are in the process of creating Dota 2... The game is currently in beta, but will be Free to play on Release..
The E-sports scene for dota is huge, If you're good at it, and you have a good team of players, you have a chance of making alot of money from different leagues etc... Not only that, but Valve Hosts their very Own Invite only Tournament With a first place prize of 1million $...yea , 2nd place- 250k etc etc

The game Is HARD,don't expect to just be pro at it instantly... been playing for 5 years and still not on the level of some pro players.. It takes skill, intelligence and good strategy to excel and win matches
