Don't underestimate Kakashi's speed... he's as fast as Gate Mode Gai.

And opening the gates and accessing that speed are 2 completely different things. I don't believe he can open any gates, I just believe he can use that speed.

And it's clear Gai has used those gates before.. you think every fight they've ever had, he's never opened a single gate?

so your saying without opening the 6 gates . kakashi can use 6 gate type speed ? opening gates is differnt from copying a typical water jutsu for example , because you have to remove the restrictions from the body . A regular jutsu you just need the hand signs at the element to copy . plus kakashi has never shown anything close to that speed ! And we have never seen them spar seriously . So i dont know for sure that gai never used 6th gate before in a spar . But you are jut guessing that he has used 6th gate in a spar . when you think about it why would gai open 6th gate just to spar ? its taxing on his body !

Kakashi's no speed demon but he does fair pretty well against thosw that are.
Examples: Kakashi matched Itachi's speed in part 2, Kakashi's raikiri blitz on Kakuzus first heart, also his near instant chidori attack as a kid when he wiped out nearly 20 kage bunshin in seconds.
I wouldn't go as far to say he copied Gai's gates speed w/ his sharingan b/c it seems pretty impossible to produce such results by copying a jutsu but I guess it is plausible since he could open one gate outta the eight. He could have used it like Goku's kaioken. He waited for the right moment to ustilize it taking advatage of it's lasting effects, possibly when he and Gai charged at the Edo Jins. Kakashi's a genuis w/ natural born talent so I don't doubt that he'd formulate some training to nullify Gai's incredible speed. Also the Eight Gates grants its user ability beyond a shinobis capabilities and limitations so it wouldn't be right to say that a shinobi as gifted as they might be could match a Gates user. Its power cannot and should not be matched unless another forbidden jutsu is revealed to have to same effects if not greater.

Ugh, saw this thread and wanted to debunk it, but you beat me to it.
When Lee and Sasuke fought, it was emphasized that he could see his attacks, but he couldn't react fast enough. So he did what Owarij stated above.

One thing about Guy, if he didn't use his full speed in battle with the V2 gin, then why did he open 6th gate? If he was certain that Kakashi wouldn't be able to keep up with him then he wouldn't open 6th gate. It make no sense. Kakashi is for sure one of the fastest character in NV.

I don't think Kakshi can compete to Gai in 6th gate in speed. Gai opened 6th gate to use the power/strength to fight against Obito & His Jinchurikis, not to compete with Kakashi in speed. Because Kakashi has raikiri & Gai does not have any ninjutsu like raikiris so he opened 6th gate.

Now why did Gai open 6th gate but not 3rd or 4th or 5th; its Kishi's writing or you can say plot.

Sasuke never copied lee's speed. The first and only time he saw lees speed was when lees foot was in his mouth. Even after that, his speed never increased he only copied a taijutsu and used his chakra to momentarily shushin his opponent in the air to do lions barrage.

When they said Sasuke was as fast as weightless Lee that was after hard training for an extreme speed boost to do raikiri. Sasuke never saw weightless Lee fight so he never copied him. He just trained hard and used his chakra for momentary speed boost. Any ninja who can utilize chakra can do that.

Kakashi isn't as fast as gated guy.

There is a difference between copying Lee's weightless speed and Gai's 6th gate speed. Sure the sharingan can easily see these movements but unless Kakashi can actually open the 6th gate those speeds are near impossible achieve. Only characters capable of these speeds without opening gates are A, Minato and Naruto ( i think that's it ).

sasuke never copied lee gate speed . Only lee speed without gates . Saying kakashi trained with gai has nothing to due with kakashi abilities to open 6 gates . his body is not trained for that , i like kakashi as much as the next person , but giving kakashi 6 gate speed is .. fanboyish . nothing in the manga even hints that kakashi vn open 6 gates . its pure speculation at its finest . Almost like saying choji can use shadow stitching cause he sparred with shikamaru alot

You just proved him right. He copied his Taijutsu, not his speed.

But since Kakashi also can use 1st gate, he can boost up his speed to IMO 5th gate Lee...
