You guys are kidding yourselves. Naruto doesn't have an infinite loop of déjà vu everything that happens is surprising and throws people off. Pain arc was completely different than war arc there actual major development One Piece just keeps repeating the same story of pirates that save islands from bullies over and over with an overarching story about saving the world from big bully word government
So out of the 30 arcs in One Piece, every single one of them is the same story of going to an island to beat up the island bully repeated over and over. Lets look at the arcs and see if this is really true, but I am going to take out a couple of arcs though to make it more fair for you.
I will exclude the
Coby and Helmeppo Arc as well as the
Buggy Side Story Arc because well they were just 2 chapters long and they didn't really talk about the Straw Hats. Sure it is different, but they both were just 2 chapters. A bit unfair.
Also, I will exclude the
Post-Alabasta Arc,
Post-Enies Lobby Arc, and
Post-War Arc because even thought they are listed as separate arcs, they really were just a wrap up of the previous arc. yeah a lot happened in these arcs that were way different then beat up bad guy, like plot progression, but again, it would be way unfair to you to argue those arcs.
So that leaves us with 25 arcs. lets keep score. One point for you where the typical island bully gets beat up by the Strawhats. One point for me where it is not.
Romance Dawn: Luffy beats up Alvida and Captain Morgan. He also recruits Zoro and becomes friends with Coby. Alvida wasn't on an island, nor was she threatening it. Captain Morgan was a bully, but he wasn't threatening an island trying to destroy it. He was just an ass to the people. Also, Luffy only attacked him because Morgan Attacked him.
Orange Town: Luffy Beat up Buggy. We also get Luffy's back story with Shanks and why he is trying to become King of the Pirates. Buggy was in no way a bully of the island. he was just a normal pirate stopping there doing pirate things, and was going to leave. it just so happens he has horrible luck and ran into Luffy. They also teamed up with Nami.
Syrup Village: Luffy beats up Kuro. He wasn't a bully. in fact they all loved him. it just so happens he was going to kill a few people so he can live on the island as a wealthy person. Luffy interrupted his plans. They also grabbed a Usopp.
Baratie Arc: They stopped at a restaurant to eat. Bad guy showed up and Luffy kicked his ass. They also got a Sanji. Again, horrible timing for Don Krieg. not an island bully, just a bully trying to steal food on a ship.
Arlong Park: They go to get Nami back and Beat up Arlong. Hey look the first island bully.
Louguetown: Luffy meets old characters and some new enemies. Luffy didn't beat up anyone, nor did they save anyone. They ran for their lives.
Reverse Mountain: hey entered the Grand Line, and they meet a whale.
Whiskey Peak: Introduction of Baroque Works and reveal on Vivi. A couple of scraps with fodder.
Little garden: They resolve a 100 year battle between 2 giants. They also beat up Mr. 3. Mr. 3 was in no way a bully of an island.
Drum Island: They get a Chopper and beat up the Bully of the island. Hey look that's 2 now.
Alabasta: There we go. It's this kind of arc you were referring to right? it's where the Straw hats go to an island to beat up the bad guy who is causing problems.
Jaya: Luffy beats up a pirate passing through with one punch. We also get plot development and a set up to the next arc.
Skypiea: Luffy saves another island from destruction! That's 4 for you now. Although if Luffy wasn't there, the island would have just been destroyed and no one would have cared.
Long Ring Long: Luffy beats up some pirates who were threatening them. They came to the island after Luffy and crew arrived and in no way did they threaten the island.
Water 7: Usopp leaves crew, Robin leaves crew. Find out members of the Galley-La are evil CP9 members and take Robin away. They never bullied the island. Luffy doesn't save the island from them.
Enies Lobby: Luffy and crew beat up CP9 members and save Robin. I will just give this one to you because I don't feel like arguing how they weren't bullyies of the island and they wen'r hurting the people there, but it was the standard fight set up that is used in future arcs.
Thriller Bark: Luffy beats up Warlord who was isolated on his island ship creating a zombie army. Not really the typical island bully, but Luffy did save the island.
Sabaody Archipelago: yeah..... Luffy didn't save anyone, He really didn't even beat up the bad guys. in fact they lost. There is no way you can argue this arc is any way "One Piece just keeps repeating the same story of pirates that save islands from bullies" with this arc.
Amazon Lily: Luffy befriends Boa. He also fights her sisters.... yeah, not an island bully.
Impel Down: Luffy fights and loses to the warden. He then recovers and runs away with prisoners. Luffy lived, but didn't even accomplish his goal of why he went there. "Island bully" but didn't "save" the island.
Marineford: Who did Luffy beat up? Who did Luffy save here? Exactly. Next.
Return to Sabaody: They get back together and sail to Fishman Island. Luffy also one shots a cyborg. no island bully. Luffy didn't save anyone.
Fishman Island: Yay! You get another point. I was wondering when that would happen again.
Punk Hazard: Kind of hard to be a bully of an island that is deserted. but Luffy did beat up the bad guy and save people. I will give you this one as well just because your numbers look bad right now.
Dressrosa: And Luffy saving this island from the bad guy.
I left the ones underlined as your points and the ones bolded as mine. looks like the final score is 16 to 9 in my favor. 36% of the arcs are your typical Luffy saves island from bully, and that isn't even black and white just because I didn't want to spend a long time arguing for one arc, or I just felt sorry for you.
Really the only islands that are black and white are Arlong Park, Drum Island, Alabasta, Fishman island, and Dressrosa. 5 out of 25.
I guess it just seems like it has been repeating because that is what it has been like since the time skip. When you look at all of it though, One Piece is not what you think it is. There is a lot of things that happen on the island, and maybe they beat up a bad guy who may or may not be that important, but a lot of plot and character development happens as well.
The major thing to note though is every Shonen type of manga is like this. Every arc in Naruto, some villain is defeated whether it be someone like Orochimaru, or some villain that have very little impact on the story like Zabuza.
People just need to stop hatin on One Piece and accept it as the GOAT.
