This seems to be a trend I've noticed ever since the end of the Pain's Invasion of Konoha arc.Tsunade survived being cut in half,Kakashi is still able to spam Kamui without dying unlike his fight with Pain.Onoki survived being crushed by not one but two meteors,Obito survived being slashed, having the bijuu extracted from him, using Rinne Tensei, and having the Gedo Mazou ripped from him.
Last but not least Gai was saved despite the fact using the 8th Gate should've killed. I'm sure someone will go and say "Oh but Gai will die in the next chapter", yet seeing past events of characters surviving things no person would live through (Tsunade getting cut in half) ,part of me believes Kishi will write in some magical miracle that keeps Gai alive but unable to function as a ninja.
So does Kishimoto have a aversion to make sure someone stays dead or not?
