Does Itachi need Mangekyou to use Susano'o?

At first, when I read this thread I said to myself everyone knows that Susano'o is a MS technique. But, when I looked back at the manga issue (392) I do see that when Susano'o came out, Itachi did not have MS eyes. I think Kishi had Itachi summon Susano'o ("offscreen") right before Kirin hit him, which is why we didn't see the MS eyes. So good observation. I think you just forgot the dialogue of the issue.

But, yes Itachi did need the Mangekyou Sharingan to use Susano'o. Itachi states that Susano'o "awoke within these eyes on that fateful day" and he obviously is talking about the day he acquired the Mangekyou Sharingan.

Once you posses the eyes, you possess the ability to use Susano'o.
