Then why not jiraiya? What's 1 more soul if he cant revive the potential hundreds he's already killed. Besides, what's 1 fodder to his previous sensei who he murdered?

Because Jiraiya was at the botton of the ocean,that's why he was'nt revived and even if he was would have died again from the water pressure.

Anyway Rinne Tensei can be used to revive a single person depending on how long they are dead and how big the user's chakra reserves are.

In the anime, it seemed as if Nagato was just returning the dead bodies their soul he had taken.
Thats what it seemed to me.

OT: i think its a justu that takes the user's life. Just guessing.

I don't know if Rinne Tensei always kills the user.If the person using Rinne Tensei has a big enough life force/chakra pool they may be able to survive.

It doesn't just kill you when you use it. It killed Nagato because it drained him of all his chakra.

i think he could not revive jiraiya because he didnt have hte chakra.Jiraiya is not someone who dies thru water pressure. he could summon hte frogs and live inside them.

he already revived a village with the fraction of his chakra(remaining) and thus died.
