Does anyone wonder how long it takes to learn new jutsu?

In Naruto the characters spend a lot time improving their physical strewngth and previous jutsu rather than learning new jutsu. Most of Naruto's and a lot of Sasuke's jutsus are varients of previous jutsu.
Examples: Sexy jutsu -> Transformation
Chidori stream -> Chidori
Naruto Uzumaki barrage -> Taijutsu ripped off from Sasuke who ripped it off from Lee plus shadow dopplegangers.

Then there are people like Nagato and Orochimaru who know a bazillion of them.
Which brings me to my point. Do you think it takes a long time to learn new jutsu? Or do you think the characters just have jutsu preferences?

We can't know this :p

But it will obviously take longer time to learn an s-rank jutsu than an e-rank jutsu :p
It will also depend on the control you have over your own chakra and so on ^^

Well.. In Naruto you have people who is natural talented, Like Sasuke and Neji. It probably doesn't take them long to get the hang of a Jutsu.

Then you have people like Naruto and Rock Lee. Who probably work their butts off to learn a Jutsu. When Naruto stole that scroll he learned Shadow Clone Jutsu from, Even then, He had to work his butt off to master it.

Then Nagato, Orochimaru, and Jiraiya, They've been around the block. They been in war, watch comrades die. The difference is, They're not using any New Jutsus. They're using moves they've already mastered.

There is no set amount of time, it depends on the user and the jutsu... Naruto learned rasengan in 3 weeks, but developed (which is harder than to learn) rasenshuriken in a week or so... Sasuke learned chidori in a couple of days (with the help of his sharingan which made it easier)... Minato took 3 years to develop rasengan.

As for the reason why they choose to improve current jutsu rather than learning new ones? They don't have time for that... if you take a jutsu you know and improve it, you still know how to use it efficiently in battle, rather than a completely new jutsu which would take time to master.

Kind of funny because this is naruto and most jutsu that the main characters learn just requires them to solve some type of riddle about the meaning of friendship, or possibly they just need to have "MOOOORE HATRED >:["

EDIT: i meant the series as it is nowadays, its true back during the chunin exams and the tsunade arc you DO see sasuke and naruto training hard for jutsu like rasengan/chidori

Depends on the character. Geniuses like Neji, Sasuke and Itachi probably won't need a lot of time to learn a jutsu (even though it depends on how difficult the jutsu in question is) while mediore shinobis (aka no genius) like Naruto and Lee will take much longer. Of course for Naruto the progress is sped up because of his shadow doppelgangers. But it all depends on the difficulty of the jutsu, how great the chakra control is and how fast of a learner a shinobi is
