We see in the beginning of the series we see all the stark children get direwolf pups. To me it seems in a way the durewolves are meant to symbolize their owners and with their deaths I think it hints their owners deaths.
We see jons direwolf name is ghost and in a way jons a ghost he's a person that shouldn't still be alive.
Also aryas direwolf was set free into the wild and in a way so was arya, we see her wolf finds her own pack and arya returns to hers.
Sansas and brans direwolves are dead hinting to me their deaths in the series is inevitable.
