If luffy meet shanks somewhere along the line before reaching Raftel or even before that, and giving back the straw hat to shanks, would you feel something similar to while straw hats bid there farewell to going merry?
I mean the hat was the most important treasure to him even greater than his own life, if by any chance shanks doesnt die(keeping the plot aside) and he gives back the hat, i would surely feel empty seeing luffy without his trademark hat.
I can imagine luffy trying to put his hat on his head when he is getting excited but then suddenly remember the hat isnt there anymore.

Doubt shanks is ever getting that hat back. Chances are, if they ever do meet up, Luffy will offer to give it back, but shanks will refuse.

Besides, what would we call the Strawhats then? The Nohats?

Shanks gave Luffy that hat coz he saw traits in Luffy that reminded him of his old captain, the hat is Luffy's and shanks is like the keeper of a crown who waited for until the next king appeared and gave them the crown.

The hat shows that shanks is betting on Luffy so he wldnt take back that bet I believe.

Shanks will most likely die by the hands of an Admiral, BB, or a Gorosei to prevent Luffy from giving the straw-hat back to Shanks.
