Well he is stupid but the fact that Corazon is stupid yet talented implies that his talent lies in something else. Possibly fighting. Corazon also had many scars on his body and DD even said "you killed the enemy right?" After he saw the wound Law gave to him.

Corazon is probably similar to Luffy. Stupid in everything but a genius when it comes to fighting, Aka talented.

Based upon the observations of Corazons IMMENSE durability he seems to be a complete and utter tank. He seems to shake everything off, including burns and knife wounds:

He is also one of the four top executives just under Doflamingo. Since Rocinante was still very young he clearly had a lot of potential, maybe even more so than Doflamingo.
