I don't. I think when Pain said that, he was referring to his real body being hidden somewhere else and Jiraiya could have defeated Nagato then and there.

Jiraiya wins high diff at konoha. He wouldn't have got throat crush blitzed or lost his arm on his own turf as easily. He has all the assets Naruto has except his sage mode isn't perfect. Jiraiya could maybe pull this off with no plot restrictions

That's a filler episode. Actually, it was part of a canon episode. But the part where Pain took down Utakata was a filler. It wasn't shown in canon spefically how the fight went down.

Nagato himself said he might have lost. We never seen Jiraiya full out fight a battle, he was trying to figure out how he knows the people he was fighting and how they had Rinnegans so he didn't jump in dishing out all he can and he still killed 4 Peins before his death. Knowing of shared vision, Deva path 5 min intervals, what each Path can do, that the real one isn't among them would all help Jiraiya. Leave a clone fighting with the toads as he goes to fight Nagato is a possibility. We never seen Orochimaru or Jiraiya fight with everything

I think you're forgetting that jman was a sage. His taijutsu is better then pains and jman also has his toad stomach thing which isn't a injured so it cant be absorbed. All in all jman had ways he could have won.

Jiraiya could still catch the deva path using his senbon technique, which takes way less than a second. All he has to do is survive long enough to figure out the deva path's time limit, then send a frog at him. when the deva path rejects the frog, jiraiya could use hair senbon and kill him. (this only works if the animal path is already taken out)

He was caught of guard during the fight because he was always guessing.
If he knew what naruto knew it would have eventually been one on one.

Jiraiya is underrated because of that fight but he really strong. What 6 tails naruto did to him was by accident and he ddnt want to hurt naruto. Id say thats a worthy scar.

He is in the same city/area where Nagato was at, and he had the skills and speed to locate and try and find Nagato. And no, Chibaku Tensei would have never been used in his village (or CST).

Pain was correct, if Jman knew the secrets he could have won.

Uh, no, of course not. As soon as all of the Six Paths appeared, they raped Jiraiya. Not only that, Jiraiya was mostly doing good against only three of the Paths because the terrain was largely in his advantage - half the time he was hiding, devising strategies, preparing the Frog Song, plus he only managed to get into SM because he was fighting only one Pain body. With or without intel, in an open field (or not), Pain beats Jiraiya med difficulty, depending on how he approaches the fight, maybe even low.

I'm pretty sure that line was just Pain/Kishimoto paying his respects to Jiraiya's character.
