Look at what he said about Sasuke. I highlighted the box in red.

I can understand how he knows about Pein, because he helped create him with the help of Hanzou.

What I can't seem to grasp, is how he knows all about Sasuke? How does he know that Sasuke has "secret motives"?

The council most likely doesn't know 100% of what is going on with Sasuke. Shikamaru's father is looking at Danzou, almost with a suprised expression, because it is something he didn't know either. He only knew that he wanted to kill Itachi.... and that is no secret... Sasuke was saying that since he was a child!!!

Only us as readers know that Sasuke went after the 8-Tails... and that Sasuke is returning to Konoha. Its almost as if Danzou is expecting Sasuke to return, and will use his return to solidify the councils' choice in making him Hokage!?!?!

I won't accept that Danzou is Madara/Tobi ... However, Danzou has shown that he is willing to "make friends" with Konoha's enemies in order to improve his own status... ie with Hanzou. I won't be surprised if we see Madara conversing with Danzou at some point in the future... possibly in the next 5 mangas...

My speculation is Danzo has ties with Madara. On that statement he said, I think he has something else in his mind. I also think that Sasuke's invasion to Konoha will be a 'pawn' of Madara's evil plan and in the end he is about to backstab Danzo at the back.

Consider normal behavior of any one. For us things dat we don't know are like secrets. So is with Danzo. He said Sasuke's secret motives b'coz he himself didn't know his motives. I don't find anything wrong in dat word. Maybe he should have used words like Sasuke's unknown motives, then it may have been better....

Just look at him he covers the eye that would be where Mandara's Mangekyo Sharingan would be. So somehow a tie to both wouldn't be a surprise.

You are thinking things way through and you're seeing what you want to see like all the others with there Danzo-Tobi-Madara-Obito theories.

Yes, that Sasuke wanted to kill Itachi was more or less a well-known fact, however Itachi is already dead! They know he killed him, but he hasn't come back, so they have no idea what he is planning now. So of course he uses that phrase of "secret motives" because they just don't know his motives anymore.

And where do you see that expression of Shikaku? To me that looks more like a worried expression, especially with the sweatdrop on his face. If he had a surprised expression, his eyes probarly would be bigger.

People express emmotions in different ways. Shikamaru's father's look was that of "concern" and concern for what? Danzou's motives, which are? Concerned about Sasuke's secret motives?

Its sort of like Shino's father's expression of happiness here... LOL
